jus started cleanin my engine bay 2day to get the gasket nd cylinder head back in wen i notice this crack. i dont know what part this is tho so can anyone identify this part and its importantance

that is the starter motor. i would get that changed while you can easily get to it.

i would also seriously consider changing that rusty coolant pipe at the back of the engine. looks like its ready to leak

The starter housing is cracked by the looks of it buddy.

That's your startermotor and you may need a new one could jump out of place when you go to crank it over

i might actually need to consider buyin a new engine by now

Starter is a small fix.If its only the things which bolt onto the engine I'd hold out,or at least do a compression test to see if the internals are healthy.IF they aren't then that coupled with the other issues it might be a wise move,although you'll pay more for an engine with turbo,starter,inlet mani etc

or you can just put washer and nut at the back of it, also my first starlet only had one bolt holding the starter, i found that out after 4 years of ownership and never had any problems with it
