Hi guys and girls.Im the guy whos making the carbon fibre parts above so I thought I better come on and let you know a bit more about what im doing. The parts are not a fibreglass frame covered in carbon fibre, they are made from carbon using a process called vacuum assisted resin transfer molding which results in a product which comes close to F1 style pre preg parts in both strength, stiffness and light weight.I know some of the imported mass manufactured bonnets are mostly made from fibreglass with a single layer covering for cosmetic sake.I will not make parts this way as it is defeating the point of having carbon parts to start with eg,weight saving.i am currently making molds for a car that is entering the time attack series and nearly every panel we can take from this car is going to be made from carbon even the roof skin and wider rear quarters. With 500bhp,500ft torque and an ultra light weight shell it should be competitive.Im trying to offer parts that nobody else is doing as well as the regular stuff.I can make parts from 100% carbon fibre to order,to give you an idea your avarage big name bonnet might be 85% fibreglass! most people dont know this untill they see one that has been broken or damaged.I will use some fibreglass and kevlar on the inner side of the bonnet frame or could go to 100% carbon if thats what you want.the pro made carbon fibre bonnets on track cars weigh as little as 8 lbs but Nissan factory stuff could be £1500 for instance .Excellent quality but a bit much for the road unless you want to save every pound weight and have deep pockets!.I can aslo offer coloured hybrid carbon /kevlar cloths but these cost a bit more and would have to be ordered from the usa.will try to post some pics of the different cloths available.Hope this gives you all a better idea of how the parts are to be made.Im doing the rear spoiler and inner part of the bonnet mold this weekend.top bonnet mold done and came out perfect.Talk to you`s all soon.
Best wishes DEE

yes if the bonnets really are much lighter then you could have a steal on your hands!

all the others look nice but dont give any improvements in performance etc.

wat kinda weight differences are there?

so you can make any part carbon fibre as long as you got a template to work from, so will you be making wings, rear boot, side skirts etc

Oh god, I wanna drop the car off and pick it up with a full carbon body with a blue tinge!

And the whole interior, dash, door cards...

And some engine bits..

I need money.

I can take moulds from most origional car parts.Wings rear hatch, bumpers, skirts etc.It gets complicated when the molds have to be made in more than one part. When I make Smithy`s parts il go with 100% carbon to see how light they turn out.I have an aerospace spec carbon cloth which is ideal for the strength and thickness it offers for the lower layers,I will use this below the twill on the top layer

Regular bonnets will be £400,maybe a bit cheaper if i get an order for a few as the more cloth I can buy in one go the cheaper it gets.Im doing the bonnet vent seperate so can offer these on their own if anybody wants those.100% carbon would be extra.Nice Paseo by the way p2d.Not many of them about over here

i.e. fiberglass structure and CF overlay which is then covered in Resin bla bla bla

wet layup has nothing to do with the part being carbon or fiberglass. Its about the process and the materials used (prepregs for example)

Hi deetech welcome to the forum. I use vacuum infusion too...

Interior parts can be done too,the only problem is instead of being bolted on a lot of things have fiddly clips on the back to mount them etc. These can not be molded easily so you could only do a mold of the front faces.Hi AGA,nice to know some one is doing a bit of infusion,so much better process than the old wet lay ups.Trying to find the right resins in the UK was a nightmare.Im waiting on a sample from a new company who tailored a resin to the spec I wanted. Most had a very long gel time as they were designed for making boat hulls or windmill blades.I have also found a good crystal clear uv resistant gel after trying six others.Nobody has much experience with infusion in the UK yet .
