Yeah, my thoughts too. Would only serve to keep the top of the inlet cooler (if even that?)

Thought it was worth sharing lol.

I think it may work some if you can get the fins in air flow above the bonnet otherwise it will be heating rather than cooling.

if you have a front mount, you could duct the bonnet vent to the fins. i still cant see it being worth the effort

Maybe re route the aircon onto the fins as well :) but TBH fins are about wind velocity rather than just temp.
Really not sure the net effect as the inlet in aluminium heats pretty much instantly and cools instantly I have often wondered whether the inlet manifold is acting as a heat sink for the combustion chamber metal to control det.
Thats why I haven't put a extra thick insulation gasket on the manifold or removed water hoses to cool the inlet, trying to avoid over heating the combustion chamber if my theory is correct about heat bridging over the thinner gasket.

I very much doubt it's anything to do with any of the above. A lot of cars of that era are the same and det isn't a factor.

A heatsink increases surface area to allow better cooling, but in this application it more of a halfords special mod !

sonic the ............ intake LOL!

would be interesting to put a few temp sensors on the air going in and out of the intake to see if its actually going anything. Might cool it down a very minute bit but hey every little helps ;S

heat sink from a computer is it lol ,just off topic krissy b had a standerd intake before think it was cut down and rewelded cant seem to find the picture of it any one have ?think he sold it on few year ago

In the hot climate you try to think of any cooling especially when the cooling system isnt coping I agree in normal function if the heat inlet is acting as a heat sink it is distributing heat it is temporary situation as it heats the incoming air and takes it back to the chamber again at the design temp of 90C but if the intake is cooling the air because the intake temps are higher than 90deg C in that case the intake distributes heat away from the combustian chamber and it cools the intake charge may be a small advantage there?

good ptfe gasket from the head to intake does a nice job on dropping temps due to heat soak i try and tested in

doesn't look like it will do much of anything to me cooling wise with respect to the air going into the engine

i do like the originality though..lol

how much are we actually talking with back to back testing under similar conditions? ive heard people rave about them but no one ever gives any exact figures.

The post I rely on did have some figures basically said it worked for a short time then temps went up again to the same temps may be ok for idleing before a drag race but maybe not for more constant idleing like city traffic.

@Mr Fab did you keep the water pipes through the intake? Stock IAT ?

It wont do anything unless there are fins on the inside of the manifold as well and the external ones are being super cooled.
Good inter cooler is the way to go.

Rev buddy, if you use an AC pump there's a way or two to maybe get some results but a normal ancient AC pump eat to much energy.
Maybe electronic AC pump --> DIY Frankenstien charge cooler.
