.

That depends on the type of 223 round lol some people want something left after shooting it. Man I saw rabbit getting hit with one of these rounds from 200 yards minimum and there was nothing left of it if was like it exploded destroyed it like sick shit imo. Could'nt do that to an animal I'd find it way easier to shoot a knacker who deserves it.

shoot it in the head, sensible option.

rabbits are vermin, get shot in the head

most of the duck that are shot in and around ponds, well mallard anyways, have been bred for the purpose of being shot, so without that, they wouldnt have had a life in the first place.

obviously im gunna seem biased, i grew up a gamekeeper, and have shot plent of shite.

on to clarky. what make you got mate, ive got 3 over an unders, got miruku, beretta 687 EELL, and a 20 bore beretta sporting aswell. and still got a 16 bore side by side, my first ever shotgun, and at 10 yer old, there was a fair kick from the cunt.

you should go to the clays mate, if you cant get much duck shooting, i will be at the clays once i get home, and will have a days rough shooting, clays are good for keeping your eye in, aslong as its not shitey skeet lol.

good luck in finding land, i know if you wer over stranraer side, i could prob manage to sort a few flights out.

have you not thought bout going down the foreshore? i dont know the laws in ireland, but sure your still allowed to shoot the foreshore. least you might be lucky to get a whack at the geese

shooting animals for sport or fun is weak imo

your showing that you need a weapon to do it and also picking on something that is completly defenseless .

catch it with your hands and kill it that way and then eat it ,.eans it didnt die for nothing.

another point just because " you gave it a life" doesnt mean you own it and have the right to take its life away .

i love eating meat so im no veggie nor am i some wee fruit that cares for all the plants and tress shit either just hate to see people picking on weaker animals that have no chance of escape...bullies if u ask me...but what comes around goes around.

how does the meat that you eat come around? found dead, and then they decide to make it into a steak?

be wise mate, there killed the same, in a defencless way, and just because there bred for beef, it makes it right in that way??

do you think people who go out duck flighting, or pheasant shooting, think the birds are going to waste? and not gunna get ate, there not shot for no reason. anyone who shoots birds on a shooting estate, knows afterwards, the birds head off to the game dealer, where there prepped, and then sold to other companies, who produce whats needed from it, and then its on the supermarket shelf, or with game, more so, its into a restaurant. its not "dyin for nothing"

they dont die for no reason, you are obviously one of the uneducated, who have views on killings, with no real knowledge of how or why its done.

that makes no sense at all. You would cause the animal undue harm and distress by attempting to trap it and then killing it by hand. When shot the animal often dies quickly.

I cant understand people killing animals for no reason but if its killing for food and done in a way that is not going to wipe out a species then I see no problem.

Remember the meats you pluck from the supermarket shelf are more often than not raised fro birth, fattened and killed with no free life. A duck is wild and has a free wild life.

On another note ... hunting is very popular down South in the states a friend of mine is mad in to hunting Gators, Deer and wild Turkeys.
He is up in Ohio at the moment hunting and posted this picture up...

And before anyone starts crying about it... the animals have to be culled each year to stop over population and licenses are granted for each hunter to take one or two its very well controlled and policed. Had some gator it was good :) and deer.

Do people think the animals are shot and then left to rot in the hedge? I used to go on a shoot with my dad when I was a kid and everything that was shot was taken home and eaten. A lot more honourable than picking a battery hen off the shelf of your local supermarket.

exactly how i was brought up, i still remember my grandad telling me on my first time on the foreshore, only shoot what you can carry back off, and what you intend to eat, or know someone who will eat it.

People know why you posted, and will reply if they have land I'm sure. A thread like this was always gonna attract attention so deal with it.

My old man told me pretty much the exact same thing when I first went hunting..lol!:)

As for what was said above about killing poor defenseless animals above etc etc, just conisider this: All meat you eat has been killed by man right? A cow lives its life under control of man and is eventually killed by man...correct? Infact all meat you eat probably has lived and died under the thumb of man, no chance of survival..only one outcome in its poor monotonous extremely routine captive life.

Now consider a wild duck. Living its days as its should in the wild. Now someday this duck unfortunately crosses paths with a hunter. This duck has a chance at survival, its fate is in its own hands, maybe it dies, maybe it lives but the fact of the matter is the duck makes its own calls, controls its own life, controls its own destiny.

Now Iamrab, which do you consider the fairer way of life? An animal that dies by hunting has a natural evolutionary end too its life (humans have evolved too be the top predators). Or is it the farmed animal that lives in captivity and believe me comes too an end in a far more unfair, painful and cruel way.

Im not saying release the cows, im saying a wild duck has had a much better life than what you find on your plate every night and you dont complain about that so biuld a bridge and get over it.

@ Clarky, dude, join your local gunclub. Its not expensive and it allows too hunt on all gunclub land which is generally bloody extensive, tonnes of different hunting environments over a massive area..what more could ya want!!!:)

:haha: hate when that happens!! I have heard of people going onto preserved land too raise the ducks and track them onto hunting grounds but I wouldent advise that!!!!

Im off out early tomorrow morning myself too try and catch them leaving the lakes (down around Skibbereen in west Cork). Probably go back out in the evening just as its getting dark too catch them coming in if we dont get a sniff in the morning. You have a gun dog? We have a lab, hes pretty good, our last fella was much much better then the current one though!!!

Got my shotgun 2 weeks ago, my birthday was last monday so went out and bought myself a 9 week old springer spaniel, lovely thing so he is, he's very big and strong for his age.

Just trying to get him house trained and then get him used to the gun, gonna be though to train him on the gun and the whistle and to retrieve all the game but it should be good.!!

do you think i should train him myself or get him proffesionally trained?

I must admit I don't like the idea of animals being killed. But I think as a meat eater it has to be accepted, you can't slate hunting but then buy a duck in a supermarket. Hunting has been around since the start of the world and its just how carnivorous animals feed. I would never be able to do it myself and I must admit that I don't always approve of the way its done, often see in the field next to my house 1 pheasant being shot at by many different people. IMO it is a little cowardly to do it that way, as I believe the term 'hunt' must provide a fair chance for each side, otherwise its nothing more than a masacre.
