External Wastegate Fitting

Hi guys!

is it easy install an external wastegate on a standard manifold turbo set-up?? or do i need a manifold designed for one??

Yes you need a mani made from one.
Tho there's no reason to goto such an expense. The only reason i can see for this is extreme boost creep.
Why do you want an external wastegate?

Well you're probably looking at £500, and they only make a noise if they;re not plumbed back into the exhaust and they sound like a banchee howling.
I'm gonna put money on your thinking of compressor stall in which case you put on an open ended filter and loose the dump valve.

You need to weld the wastegate flange to your manifold somewhere, attach the wastegate to the manifold and then get someone to fabricate you a screamer pipe. You can easily do it to your stock manifold. Any engineering firm should be able to do it for you for cheap. Just make sure you take you car there also so they can check to make sure the wastegate/screamer pipe clears everything.

the chatter is compressor stall from not having a dump valve. it's nothing to do with the wastegate. if you want that sound block off the dump valve and fit an induction kit, as Timmy suggested.

Or if you want both flutter and BOV sound get a BOV with a harder spring which requires a higher boost pressure before the diaphragm opens. Which means it will only dump when you are properly thrashing it and it will still flutter - best of both worlds.

I have an external wastegate setup and i do not get this sound coz i run a dump valve too.

The k24 GT ran without a dumpvalve most its life i think and just had the external wastegate i know what you mean about the sound its awesome but not worth spending all that money if all you want it for is a noise. Plus it doesnt sound as awesome on a ct9 lol

You are after the ‘’Chatter’’ as most people call it but more correctly described as Compressor Surge or the Turbo Stalling. As already mentioned if you are really after this blocking off the Dump Valve will help you achieve this sound however imo it sounds poo on a CT9. Of course totally up to you. Really for installing the External wastegate would be to accurately control and mange your boost levels which clearing is not the result you are after.

You should come for a ride in my car mate, with a front mount the chatter is wicked :drive:
