you are stupid if you get caught not wearing the belt so 3 points is deserved, not just for savinf your own life but the cost to the taxpayer of putting you right when you are all mashed up when all you had to do was put your belt on

Old cars do not have to have seatbelts as they may not have any suitable way to retro fit them. All cars from 1964 onwards (i think) have had seatbelts fitted in the front as standard. Some from earlier than this date have suitable mounting points as they could have been specified as an optional extra so can, if wanted, be fitted.
I used to have a 1963 hillman superminx which had one seatbelt fitted when new and it was on the passenger side (husband originally bought the car for his wife so had one fitted his side!) and I used to get pulled very often as my passenger had there belt on and I didnt.
PC Why arent you wearing your seat belt.
ME I dont have one
PC Errrrr........
It puzzled a lot of policemen!

i spoke to a trafic copper last night at purley meet, an he was tellin me the law had changed now, if you get caught not wearing a setbelt it£60 fine plus 3 points. bit extreme reli aint it

I dont think its extreme at all.

I dont understand what the big deal with not wanting to wear a seatbelt. Do people think they look cool not wearing one

I back the police 100% on this one.

i think it should be my choice if i wear a seatbelt or not!!! do not agree with points being put on licenses for that its silly, points are for dangerous driving etc. does me not wearing a belt effect other road users? dont think so

xactly, it should be up to the driver if they wear a seat belt. i can understand a fine £30 or £60 but why give points, thats a joke.that gives insurance companys the privilage of raising the renewals and it gives the police more reason to pull you over an check if you have had a record of not wearing one before.

its not asif your endangering others lives buy not wearing one only your own. an if you was unlucky enough to have a crash an have to use the 999 services fare play its not asif we dont pay out taxes etc. thats why we do so we can have it if we need it.

How the fuck are point on your license and not wearing a seat belt realted in any way???

A fine, maybe as in most cases it is safer to wear a seat belt and might help to encourage to wear it but to put points leading to loosing your license it dam right ridiculous!!! So someone not wearing a seatbelt but drives completely safe shouldnt be on the road at all?

FUCK RIGHT OFF! I hate the bastards i really do. Its all about money money money and making others lifes more difficult.

I look at this completely different to many of you i think.

nicely said dan, anybody who thinks that its right to accept points for such a pathetic thing shouldn really have a licence. if it was an instant ban i bet they would say it was harsh lol

Little tip!
copper had me in set of traffic lights. pulled up along side me and wound his window down to tell me i was'nt wearing my seatbelt. I then pointed out to him that niether was he got into a little argument that drew some attention to us which got people watching. Went to court I got off with fine and he had fine and points and suspension from traffic duties thanks to a whitness yahoo!

If its worth fighting for, don't back down you never know the outcome your only ever going to get what the law states even if you lost the case.
