Okay guys, isn't a starlet but being a starlet owner in sure you guys will help:) just got myself a polo gt TDI with the PD130 engine. Just noticed that the revs seem to drop awful quick. As if the brakes are applied gently.. But they aren't..
Noticed it in traffic when I was just trying to roll.. But keep having to use the throttle to keep myself going. Any ideas guys? Car starting/running fine etc. brakes aren't sticking..biting point may be a bit high but nothing major.
Thanks in advance.. And rep for help:)

doesnt have one of those new fangled dual mass flywheels does it? heard alot of cars having problems with them. most people just replace with a standard type flywheel and its fine.

Not 100% sure. 6 speed manual box. Could do a little search and find out easily enough. Dual mass ones are quite expensive to replace?

i think they are. but can be replaced with a normal type flywheel for alot less and for the most part, you cant notice any difference. 2 people have had problems at work with them, one on a ford mondeo and the other was a peugeot of some sort.

honestly not sure mate. i dont know what the symptoms of it going are. but if the revs drop quickly then that does sound like the symptoms of a light flywheel, so maybe it is stuck in the low inertia setting which would create that affect?

i dont know much about them, and it may not be the problem. its a possibility though.

if its under warranty, i wouldnt worry about it. just take it back and get them to sort it

I work in VW in Belfast, certainly doesn't sound right mate so get it booked in asap. Could be anything from a flywheel to a software update, would need to see it to be sure.

It just feels like the brakes are applies gently until I put the clutch in to prevent stalling. It's not like the revs fly bac down.. But it's quick enough to get a little jerk.
Anywhere I could read up about these flywheels? Seem to complicated for there own good!
Will get someone to have a look and see what they think when they are driving:)

There's also a sort of blow/groan coming from the front of the car after coming off the accelerated at higher revs. Pretty sure this is a turbo pipe problem though. Just seems like something gearbox related as the cars running fine. Idles quite low from cold at around 800 constantly. But being y first diesel I wasn't sure if this is normal!

If you are looking it covered under the vehicle's manufacturer warranty take it straight to a VW dealership. Should save you a world of hassle in the long run mate.
