Found rust.

First off pray for me that my car is not dead.Heres the story my car was in getting a steering issue sorted and a check over there was a couple of niggles which were fixed. But there has been rust found under where the battery sits, there is a hole in the panel. The one issue is the chassis leg is beside the rust is. Is there a system to test the leg to see if it has been weakened? Question for the irish lads i suppose any recommendations on a panel beaters to diagnose it?
Cheers
The guy working on the car says it looks pretty bad but he is not an expert so if he is right my car might be fubar so illl have to buy a rolling shell and transfer all my bits.

If you need to buy a new rolling shell that would be a very extreme case!

What I would do first is check on a scooby forum to see if this is a common fault? Maybe water is sitting in there and not running away.

Your scooby is a JAP import yea? You should get the whole underbody sealed with that wax oil stuff:

If it is one area only then it can be fixed. A panel beater would probably put a new plate in there and neatly weld it up.

Some pics of the hole would be good:)

No pics at the min, haven't seen it myself but was told the panel is rusted pretty bad and he said there is rust on the leg but he doesn't know how bad it is to get it looked at asap.

Remove your front bumper and check the front panel and surrounding area you can cut out rust and weld in fresh metal it's not a major deal I would bring it to a panel beaters just for peace of mind dont panick yet I've seen an 00 Almera a few months ago that had to have a hole front panel cut off and replaced as it was so badly rusted it practically fell off it was as good as new once repaired

X2 It is always the way with cars. For a while my brakes were giving trouble. I finally got them sorted at the weekend. The day they were fixed it started leaking water somewhere.

Better of on a bicycle :haha:

Errrr It sounds to me that this man who has your car is not busy and trying to make a big un-necessary job to your car to get plenty of bags of cash off you!!

i thought that at first but he is pretty genuine to be honest, he just told me to get it to a body shop straight away. And the work he has done on my car is working out pretty cheap.

Cheap does'nt always mean good, just get it checked by a professional and waxoil the shit out of it I'd get em to check the chassis rail's for sign's of crash damage might be why there's rust

hello mate ust is more of an anoying issue than a bad thing.
worked in the trade for almost 5years now mate although i am classed as a sprayer.
you will have to strip down to see all areas with rust and eliminate.......if it is mild sand down with a da using 80grit use a primer called etch primer then spray.
if its very bad with like you will have to with the chasis...cut the whole area out that is affected by rust as you cannot alow it to grow when fixed. then wheld a plate filla primer etc, if you worried about the rigidy weld another stainless block in the box section of the chasis although i wouldnt imagine this in necessary.
for future referance get your car fully undersealed to prevent any rust in the future.
any questions m me mate :)
