Fuel Sender Unit

Quick question,

The other day when I was taking my car over for it's MOT I noticed that the fuel gauge was stuck at reading empty. When I came back from the MOT I removed the fuel sender unit and I found that the little green wire which connects onto the little cylinder thing just above the filter had snapped off. The float arm moves freely as well but i'm not sure if anything could be damaged within the housing of the float arm.

Does anyone know what the little cylinder part of the fuel sender does just above the float?

I know i'm probably going to need to buy a new sender housing etc but just wondered if anyone had any ideas before hand incase it was a quick fix.

Unfortunately I don't think it can, the way the wire has broken off it's right down in the little circle chamber and the hole is tiny as I thought about that.

I was just wondering if that did control some sort of reading for the fuel gauge or if it was down purely through the float arm as if it was that little cylinder thing with the wire then it can easily be un-clipped and unscrewed from the top plate and replaced.

The reading for the fuel gauge comes solely from the float and the metal box it goes into.

(taken from toyodyi) If you can somehow reconnect the broken wire, that should sort your issue out.

I guess you're talking about the thin green wire running down from the lever sensor box..

toyota don't seem to list it as a separate part (as Guye says)..

@Gryzor - Yup that's the one, the thin green wire that's wrapped round that thin bar that's snapped off right where it connects into that little cylinder thing, I had a funny feeling that I would need to buy the full unit as it's broken a few mm under the black cap part so you can't even get snips in to strip the wire back to solder it as suggested.

Cheers WeeJohn, Guye and Gryzor - Glad to know that it's probably that part which is broken and giving me the non reading gauge, will go to Toyota and get one ordered up.
