i bought an lsd gearbox of someone tht breaks them he told me that it was crunching going into 3rd gear so i bought it and i and took it to a gearbox speacialist to get fixed they told me in was fixed and charged me 160 quid i put the gearbox in with a brand new exedy paddle clutch and it was still crunch in 2nd going into 3rd but it also made a grinding noise until you pressed in the clutch

so i took the gearbox back out and got one of a mate of mine that i new was 100% good no grinding, crunches or whinning noises and took it somewhere else to get the lsd put into the good box. i put that box into the car 2nite and its still doing that grinding noise until you press in the clutch

is it the lsd that is knackered? should i just rip it out and throw it away?

thts what i told them to do in the first place they told me that the gear was 100%. then the second place i took the gearbox too to get the lsd swapped told me that the orginal gearbox was fucked he showed me 4th and 5th gear which had big chips taken out off them and show me that some of the gears were rusted because of water getting in. so its was i good thing i did take it back the the first place cos they would have told me just to spend more more on it even though it was fucked

Now take your findings back to the first ''gear box specialist'' and get a refund!

If it was making a grinding noise when in neutral it could well be the release bearing is fucked, if its bad enough it could be causing your selection issues to a certain degree. I would check over the release bearing and check the fork it sits on is not bent.

cant get a refund they are just blaming the other place that i took it to for the damage they said they wounldnt have touch tht box in tht condition. isnt the grinding noise from the release bearing the other way round when you put the clutch in it start to grind?
