wounder if anyone can help.

might be lookin at importing a car threw a company, now my question is

How do i go about insuring the car so when it arives i will need to get tax.

The company says they will register it and MOT it, will i have to wait for them to do this so i can get the reg threw and wait for the V5 documents so i can sort my tax and insurance out?

Cheers

Dan.

I'm not sure how else you'll do it because the dvla will not register a car without mot and insurance.

Try sending sky insurance on here a pm.

indeed this is true my car was insured on a chassis number for a few weeks untill dvla could issue my reg No :)

you just need to inform the insurance that its not registered in the UK and tell them you would like to insure on the chassis No: they they send you a cover note. and ask you to provide the reg when issued.

are you sure?

i didnt think that was possible

I'm sure. Sky Insurance can cover you, all we need is the chassis number and the car details. The reason we can do this is that we are specialists in this field... not many other insurance companies would do it

Yeh you can insure it on a chasis number but you can't drive it on the road except to do take it to get it's mot.

Loads of insurance companies do it, anyone that insures import really. I know elephant does although we now have trade insurance. They will issue you a cover note on the chassis number.

You can't register the car until you have insurance so this is the only way to do it. Once you have insurance, MOT certificate (If SVA is not required), proof of identity, customs clearance invoice, Japanese de-registration document, Invoice for speedo conversion, Payment for Reg Fee & tax they will send you the number plate certificate and tax disks. You can then get the plates made and off you go :)

the company thats getting it for him is getting the mot and registration ect. So there is no point in insuring it as he won't be able to drive it anywhere anyway.

yeah, they say all you need to do is get it insured and taxed. They'll do the mot and register it. Just wanted to know what happens really.

well you don't need to insure it till it is registered. And you don't need your numberplate to get a insurance quote. So get your quote done and saved by the insurance company than when they give you a call that it's ready and get your number plate off them. Than ring your insurance and tell them your plate details and pick it up. You won't be able to tax it without your insurance documents but normaly the importer puts 6months on for you. Personaly i would get them to do as they can do it using there trade documents ect. than you can drive it as soon as the registration comes through.

When registering the car you buy the tax so you must have insurance.
