Tricking the ECU isnt something that is recommended.. that ECU is not designed to make it run that boost.... Not saying it "will" cause damage but could do therefore i wouldnt bother.

Does a piggy back not also "trick" the ecu to go along with it,seeing as its not a full ecu.

no it doesnt trick the ECU to go along with it.. It backs up the standard ECU and has its own functions... It doesn't put all the information it has into the standard unit....

yea, but its often misinterpreted, people can think that just a FCD stopping fuel cut is enough, obviously it isn't at least witha piggyback/standalone, it'll sort the fuel cut and fueling at the same time?

Why wouldn't you use it Dan? Its a proven, safe method? And ideal for those without the cash for a piggy back or stand alone set up.

because you are overriding what your standard ECU knows without actually mapping it accurately but just simply tricking it to allow the extra fuel to flow...... Ive seen/heard some cases where it has caused damage....

Its not accurate enough for my liking... I would straight away opt in at least a piggyback then at least you can remap safely not just using an FPR...

Well I don't really know enough about tuning to give any arguements but I do know it works and its cheap and safe. Thats good enough for me! :p

With a fuel pressure regulator of course to aid fueling that will be reduced if you put the hks actuator on. If you don't you will most likely run the engine too lean and cause damage.

I don't think this is true or I had anormal fueling on my engine... I have a FMIC, the rest is stock and on the highway, full throttle, at 13 psi (0.9 bar), my Air/Fuel ratio (mesured with the Innovate LM-1) gave me in the 11:1. So it is running quite rich and everything is stock. Even my fuel pump is the stock one from the Tercel... Just wondering...

the 4efte ecu does fuel quite rich to be honest but to be on precaution side you should have the necessary equipment to alter the fueling on a rolling road so to get the tune right.

Welcome to the site!! :p

I've just bought:

fuel pressure regulator
fuel cut defense
hks actuator
autobahn fmic,

Would you recommend not fitting them as i have read you comments on "tricking the ecu" and i don't wanna break my car! (need it to get to work!)

thanks :)

Alot of people don't like the HKS FCD as it can lean out your engine. Units like the JAM or GReddy work differently but achieve the same thing. A bit vague I know but tbh I'm not sure how any of em work, I just know that running lean is a bad thing.

Welcome to the site mate, hope you got some worthwhile information from the debate that jacked your thread :p

I'd recommend making a thread in the appropriate Technical Help section, and using the search function!
