Simple answer to your problem.

Go to your local garda station and tell them you lost your provisional license. They give you a form to send off and a new license gets posted to you without you having to do any tests or anything. That will allow you drive in the south regardless of what the outcome in court is.

Apply for your driving test in the south immediately and get an Irish license.

Worst thing that can happen is you will get banned in the north, you still have your irish provisional license and your test booked.

For all the lads outside southern ireland who are tempted to give out about driving with a provisional license this is a common practicse and is accepted by the police in Ireland. There is such a backlog of tests they cant blame people for driving on provisionals. Also you ARE insure in the south if you are driving on a provisional license even if you are in the car on your own...

The wait time for tests is down quite a lot now so worth getting on the list ASAP.

Also a tip for anyone out there that had a provisional license which expired.... They make you go and do a theory test now. Well if you do as I said above and report your provisional license lost even if it is expired they send you a new one and you dont have to do the theory test...

Thanks gv1.3,

But I was told if I change myself to a permanent resident down south they issue me with a Full Irish License as I have already passed my test in the North, so I shouldnt have to sit my test again down south.
