i'm quite happy with my standard ones to be honest, i have tried ruining them for the excuse of getting new ones, but wont break or anything

did 3 0-100mph-0 runs the other day, straight after one another, needless to say my breaks were basically on fire, although a week later, not warped, break as well as they did before, and arent spongy, feel spot on. lol

Update on this thread.

I'm gonna take back what I said about the 3Gs!!!

They performed much better than my new CRN discs with Yellow Pads, even while they had all those cracks in them. New brakes feel like shit compared to them, I will probably buy some more 3G's when the time comes!!

:D

I had them on my old glanza and they were awesome

can see now why the jap discs don't have the groove to the edge of the discs.
How thick are/where the discs Idrees ?

Good point. the grooved discs my glanza came from japan with only had the grooves in the centre of the disc and not to the edges... hmmm

Ive 3Gs on it now and they are very good but they have not received a lot of abuse or use for that matter so not a great example.

My 3G discs are still on their first set of pads, which are only 50% worn.

I never rest my foot on the brake after heavy braking and always try and keep the car moving if the brakes are hot.
The discs have got light cracks all around the centre of the face, no where near as bad as yours Idrees, but I'm in two minds whether to risk them with another set of pads seeing the problems other people have had.

I don't think it's a problem with the 3G discs themselves, I think it's more of the fact the discs are far too small for the car and can't dissipate the heat generated when braking from the speeds the car is capable of reaching.

It seems the brakes are one thing Toyota didn't over engineer.

it's not really a great deal to do with the discs, what you describe is more to do with the pads than anything else.

are they bedded in?

I had CRN discs on an Evo I had and they were shit and rally really noisy, was not impressed. I also deal with the main importer for Brembo who state there are no such things as "cheap Brembo blanks".

I have used many sets of 3g discs and never had them crack, BUT if they do you can be assured they will be replaced within the first year unlike others

Certainly bedded in guys, done over 1k miles in them. I've heard so much good stuff about yellow stuff pads (lol) but I don't really rate them, and the CRN discs look like they've worn down really fast. I will add pics.

My thoughts exactly. They are shit to be frank. Absolutely terrible. I used them on my last trackday and they were just down right dangerous.

The TRD pads I'm using are pretty good, but I'm not sure they warrant the price tag.

i deal with brembo uk dave, and there standard discs that they sell to trade as oe replacements arent all that much cop, i used to sell them before going over to brake engineering (who are no better nor worse than brembo oe replacements) there performance discs on the other hand are bloody excellent.

to be fair with all disks that are just machined standard disks will all suffer the same things, they need to go through proceses to make them stronger really,

i'm also not saying my discs are better, they havnt yet been proven (although lewis can probably vouch for how well they stop lol).

i'm more leaning towards what tex said, maybe the small discs just cant cope (although the classic mini's seem to cope ok)

The fact is I use solid discs and have never ever seen any of them crack, regardless of what car they're on or how long they're on there.

Mainly solid vented discs.

Drilled discs are design to reduce unsprung weight, nothing more, infact it hinders the cooling ability of vented discs.

Discs don't need to have so many grooves either, most racing applications will use shallow dimples or grooves to keep the pad clean and thats all.
