Permanent 4wd and its the GT4 engine coded st215 i believe, more or less the same but with a bigger turbo putting out 260bhp as standard

The GT4 run around 260BHP too.

What turbo is it running as youve said its bigger then a CT20b which the Rev 3+ MR2 use and GT4 ST205?

Lovely motor by the way.

Model code's ST215W. The Caldina has the highest factory bhp of any 3SGTE engine, and I'm sure it's got a CT20b under the bonnet as with the other cars the engine shares.

Must be running a tad more boost. How much do these run in stick trim? As my mates stock mr2 rev 3 made 222hp ATW which is about 260-265bhp with cat still on. I know other gt4 that make 260bhp in stock form too. That's why I ask how is this the highest power 3SGTE? By how much is it? Like 5hp or something?

Anyway thanks for all the welcomes, seems like a very friendly and helpful place,

Cheers,
Chris

From what I know, the Caldina runs the REV4 gen of the 3SGTE, and has a side inlet feed manifold which is different from the other 3SGTE's. I know it has the highest output, but only by a wee bit. UK had 239bhp, Jap had 255ps, Caldina has 260ps. Can't remember the stock boost off hand.

They are a slightly higher compression engine than the other 3SGTE models, they are not a favourite of people looking for big power and tend to be ripped out and a GT4 engine put in to be tuned. This is my daily driver after the EP85 so I am not going to tinker with it in any way, its sweet the way it is.

Permanent 4WD, the later models came with a rear LSD as standard, it was an option on the earlier (97 on) models. All came with VSC (vehicle stability control) that can be deactivated, I had to do this to get it to run on a rolling road. Mine made 267 bhp with a stainless exhaust on it only.

Auto box with manual control option via up and down buttons on steering wheel, the engine map is slightly more agressive in manual mode, gear box is controlled by the engine ECU.

Here is the link for deactivating the VSC, I have done this, it works perfectly.

Do you notice any difference on the road without the VSC? I have thought about doing it several times, but didn't know if it was worth it...

Only when you are pushing hard. I doesnt cut the ignition mid corner when the car is sliding and unbalance the car, I was nearly caught out with it on because of that.

Plus it will drift with it off. :)

I put a small switch in so it only takes a couple of seconds to deactivate it, and then it reactivates when you turn off the ignition and restart the engine again.

What a fantastic link, I'd not found caldinafaq, brilliant! Thanks!
For me being able to turn off the vsc in deep snow would be good, it may well be better than I am at dealing with slides but I never know how to react when it tries. Its probably cos I'm old and used to doing things the hard way, old dog- new tricks and all that.
