New to Starlets

Hi, I'm Kevin, new to toyota's, so bare with me!

The timing belt on my last car slipped, so while that's being re-built i needed a car for getting from A-B, got a nice wee 1.3 starlet on the cheap, 12 months mot etc.

I've got some spare tint, some lowering springs, give the wheels a wee refurb(spray black), replace the dented wing, general bit of TLC to body work.

How i got her :

a wee tidy up later, little polish, no wax, think i'll claybar it over the weekend, then give it some deep red dodo juice to sort her out

I'm going to lower it on cheap springs this weekend, rear window tints, i knowit's all a bit chavy, but cheap/cheerful :)!

I'm wondering, any bigger brakes i can fit off another standard Toyota? celica/mr2 maybe? Or would i be better off just getting turbo brakes and seeing what difference they make?

And how do the back windows come out? I've stripped out the door cards at the back, taking the seal bit off the window, i see white clips attached to the window, looks like it pops out, but i don't want to smash it...

The guy i bought it from told me the 1.3 engine is the same as the turbo's, you just attach a turbo....but i very much doubt this, surely the compression is all different, inlet manifold etc, so i'm assuming there isn't any truth in this?

I ain't got tons of cash just now, so this is just a run-about for me.

welcome to the forum mate Wat is your other car??

ah the engine is the same in a way but totally different in others like you said compression is wrong and there is alot of other stuff missin of different too its easier to buy a turbo engine with everythin loom ecu etc and do the swap rather than turbo an na

as far as the brakes turbo ones are better im sure and there is no other toyota brakes a direct bolt on without some customising to them

Welcome mate.
Is this a sportiff??
I have a black sr with a turbo engine in and with a rear gt axle on the back so if you want better brakes get rid of the drums at the back and fit some lovly rear discs.
It would be a hell of alot simpler to buy a full engine with the turbo already on from a gt. because its never just as simple as bolting a turbo on.
Would need new mani, front mount, looms and all sorts. Anyway im here if you need advice.

Good luck

My other car is a corsa xe, was way to get rebuild and throttle bodied, so it's just a few extra months!

I was just generally asking, i thought the guy was talking a bit of crap. I think i'll just stick with the engine i have. Yeah it's a sportiff! :)

I Could re-drill some 5 stud brakes, if anyones aware of calipers that crossover?

The car's lowered now, i will post pictures later.

Anyone know how to get the windows out? I see two white clips, and well they aren't moving :/, seems they just need a good push, but i don't want to have no window!

Welcome to the website. Couldn't get a better cheap and reliable run around in my opinion!

welcome bud!

you can turbo that lump.. there was someone on here runing a 4efe with a ct9 with a standalone ecu!

but would be easyer/more safe doing a full conversion!

I work...so i take the red out during the day, the purple one is the one i'm using as spares.

I hear a corolla inlet manifold fits this engine, but not the throttle body? Anybody done this?
