nice thing to happen 20 miles from home

dont blame the welds?lol..i do some stainless steel welding myself and if i showed you it you'd laugh..there is a brace there alright,a brace that stainless steel was welded to steel and didn't penetrate at all

yeah riko the wall is thin, around 1.5mm-2mm

anywhoooo, ill just weld it up and throw it back on..its just not a nice thing to happen when your 20miles from home in the middle of the night and end up with burnt electrical cables

the yanks tend to use far better materials when you compare it to what wepr use, you rarely hear about issues of them cracking unless the welding wasnt up to scratch..

this is the one i run on the teg which is from the states

to be fair to wepr this does happen with stainless steel from time to time. we have a mild steel wepr ext gate manifold on our trackcar and its a really well made piece of kit, welds are lovely, runners decent thickness. reckon mild steel is the way to go if you dont mind the rusty look.

rickylee (racetech) used the same or similar materials to the above and i dont know of anyone whos had one crack and there quite a few members on here using one of his manifolds now. (i had one on my old starbo and i know that its still good today as i still see the car every now and then) :)

does wepr back purge his welds?

how many people actually run these jap manis though? they are so expensive i dont think ive ever seen a pic of one on someones car.

ive heard of the silk road manis cracking in the past, they are jap i think!?!?

ill be running a sard k26 mani soon which i have had braced but the tubby is getting braced aswell and cermaic coated so we shall see with mine and yes silk road manis are jap:)

not getting at you Aidan and u mite be the Dogs at welding but explain to me why ur solely blaming the welds??

i look at that Manifold and i wud address a few things!!
but the main reason its in that condition is poor design

ders a big difference between a cracked manifold due to heat issues and poor grade steel and a manifold with a stress tear due to poor design
when ur running a EWG a few thimgs to consider

1. Stress must not go onto welds
2.collector chamber design that will strenthen the manifold ( no stress on welds)
runners must run into collector chamber and wastegae must be on the collector box and not on manifold runners.
3. short exit pipe to wastegate
4.brace exit pipe if possible
5. wall thickness above 2mm

Im running a Turbo that weighs 9KG and i dont have any Bracing just a flexi on the exhaust and its 100% due to the design
and no problem running High EGT'S ;)

regards

G

back purge in the welds is the key to good welding also its a bad idea sanding the welds down after too.if you need to sand the welds down better of giving welding up do something else:p

haha go one the Eric lad!! so u must be good at it by now??
so tell me Eric what is ur Dignosis of the Manifold in question?? ;)
wud u blame the welding entirely???

Unfortunately, stainless manifolds will eventually give way if they're too thin.

We used to run an Equal Length HKS one on the Evo, and it last about 6,000miles before fracturing.

Shearer are about the best these days :)

are the k seires manifold 306 grades, is 306 the strongest from all metals? as i have held a k26/24 manifold in my hand and it was very light? it was braced but its cracked and been re-welded

the ones who are stating their s/s havnt experienced any problems yet can i ask what pressure your using please :D as i'm looking for a mani for my k24 but need some feedback from both mild steel and stainless

so the pressure forced through the runners, will it affect the stability/reliablity of the welds first or the actual runners? depending on the qaulity and build

does the welding on the runners increase the mm of thinkness or is that the weakest spot?

whats the weakest spot of the manifold i.e the runners or the welds,

sorry for the questions :noidea: lol

affy :D

seems the stainless that was used looks very thin lad ,the welds you cant rely tell ....if i was doing one its a defo it will be made from mildsteel.:)ive a mildsteel one sacha made for me about 2years ago not a bother with it

back purging as the yanks say,lol

yep stainless cracks, but this is stupid to fall off,the weld was shit and the brace wasnt great,it just snaped off also,i know ill go for a mild steel jobie next time.

yeah eric the stainless used is awful thin!im just gonna weld it and put it on till it cracks again as i havent the money for a new one, when it cracks again it'l prob go in the bin as its just got to brittle

just wacth out that nothing fell into the compresser housing ,all ya need is the turbo getting messed up:mad:
