need help

Turbo has stopped generating any boost at all, my boost guage will go from -0.5 bar to 0, but no higher.

It spools up at the correct rpm, however its making a high pitched wine like a super charger, its quite loud.

Its not blowing any smoke and car runs normal aside from driving without boost.

Has anyone seen a turbo do this before, checked the actuator arm too and it freely operates.
Thanks

Craig

you know what thats what i thought, when it happened i just though, ohhh ok a hose has blown off, its making the wooshing sound as if its blowing loads of air out but there is none to be seen, its driving me nuts!

i dont think the turbo is dead, if its dead enough to create no boost then its sure as hell gonna smoke its tits off. dont keep driving and boosting it as it may over speed the turbo and then it will be dead.

cheak for leaks again, all vac lines too.

which vac lines in particular, i noticed the day before my car idle has jumped up to about 1200 rpm, i adjusted it with the idle adjust screw but couldnt get it much lower than a 950rpm with it fully screwed in, so i loosend it off a bit and its now currently at about 1100rpm

Could this be to do with with, which vac lines am i looking for?

not really,i had a turbo starved of oil,and did the same as mctagart mentioned above..no smoke or anything

id check over all vacuum pipes again,if they seem ok id disconnect the actuator and open/close the wastegate flap and listen to see if the penny hasnt come off, then id check the turbo oil feed

bov stuck open ? split boost pipe ? an idle problem is usually a vacuum pipe on the inlet manifold split

i have one question, with the turbo you have a bolt with a hole in it to allow the oil to flow though it (cant remember the name of it now!) is it critical that the hole is aligned with the pipe when tightened to allow oil to flow through correctly, or can this just be tightened as normal?

im hoping it hasnt been starved of oil as the turbo was in supurb condition with no worn shaft play

also no split pipes and it doesnt have a bov

its running a filter K&N style front mounted, literally is a tube with a filter on the end of it which bolts direct to the left side of the turbo, i assume front mounted to draw in the cold air.

its not a brand new one, but the car it was from only had 30k on the clock and was in really good nick.

Are you certain you have checked each silicone joiner for leaks, rips or tears?

Get someone to rev the engine up and down whilst you get your hands around the couplers. You should be able to feel the pressure escape if there is a leak.

My car done the same thing as yours, I had the dumpvalve hole blocked up and the thing I used to block it came out came out, I got the supercharge wine and no boost, it does sound like a big boost leak,

When my i/c pipe blew off this was exactly what it was doing so sounds like a bbig leak maybe!? Am i right in saying you dont want to be trying to thrash it like this either, it wont boost so dont keep trying!
