i really didnt want this at the moment :|

nah i think id change the gasket and bolts + oil only if the gasket is the problem.

why would it overheat if there is a problem with the rad cap?

It wouldn't necessarily, a radiator cap helps maintain pressure in the system to increase the boiling point of coolant. (But you shouldn't be getting to those temperatures). It also opens under vacuum (When the system cools) to suck coolant back in from the expansion bottle.

first time i left it idling without the rad cap there was many small bubles coming out and then coolant started to go out ..

Sounds like the headgasket...

and it was full of sludge and everything

Eep.

Do a compression test and a sniffer test as suggested above.

btw wouldnt it loose colant? or will exhaust only go into coolant

The pressure from exhaust in the coolant would mean the radiator cap will open and push into the expansion bottle. You loose coolant by it over flowing.

GRR....

went at the garage again left it idling without the rad cap and water started to go up...

then small bubles came again! so its defenitly HG??

btw the sludge is not anything from oil contamination or something like that... its the chemical i put in.

oh well...

headbolts

headgasket.

what else?

timing belt is only months old.. water pump weeks. i should be safe using the same timing belt again.

sry to hear that sheldon! but its a common problem, you should be back to normal soon!

mine was doing the same about one year ago, during steep uphills only the temp rise instantly (done it twice), but i found out that the fan didn't came in as the engine creep a bit forward /backward and make the connection of the fan with the coolant temp sensor to become loose, never made it again since then, but from then i always keeps an eye on the water temperature :)! but i changed the headgasket too about year ago (to be on d safe side) and changed everything like headbolts, head gskt set, waterpump, coolant, rad cap, thermostat, hoses, cleaned rad but just used the same timing belt (as it was only 15000km old). so you should re-use the waterpump, timing belt etc without any problems

Like people have said before...definatly get it to a garage with an emissions machine and just hover the sniffer over the rad opening when its bubbling...then you know for sure and arent wasting money on something it might not be, i'd want to be 100% sure before pulling the head off

il try to find some time and go at a friend that has an mot station...

no jason the fan is kicking in but its making a strange sound :S plus it doesnt look as fast as it used to be too...

might be the fan not doing its job as intended so, something might happened to it, check everything related first mate! go step after the other

i got my AB88 rad hoses today. so before i pop the head out im gonna remove everything flush the rad and give it a good clean. and new fan then!

if you have the rad open when you run the engine water is going to flow out as it gets hotter and expands so thats normal , whats not normal are the little bubbles which could be compression leaking from the gasket but thats even normal sometimes as had engines do that after skimming the head with brand new gaskets (depends how much its leaking. What you can do is star it from cold and see if the hoses get hard fast even before it gets to normal running temp

at the moment every little detail is doing my head! :S

il do as i said.. take off rad clean it change hoses and see from there.

il give a good look at the fan too as its making a strange noise and not turning fast as usual!

took of the rad... the cores look blocked by the sludge made from the "cleaning" chemical i left it :( tried to clean it with garden hose but with no luck... im not happy with the flow of the water...

also the fan has a fucked bearing... i opend the motor and found a sticking bearing thats why the fan is slower then usual!!

i have a civic rad think im gonna replace it instead of cleaning it cos there is some bent fins too ( most of them )

anyone suggest a good fan?
