Painting engine blocks

what do others use?

i know there is spray paints that i can use, but as it's the engine block, i would rather not spray it, as there is a lot on there that i dont want to paint, so it needs to be a brushable paint.

i have used hammerite in the past, when rebuilding mini engines and all that, but found that it generally tends to burn away and look rather crap after a week or 2.

any help will be appreciated

I use just regular car color and lacquer in several of my builts and never had a problem. Never burned or pill of or anything.. Maybe i ll find some fotos for you. Whatever you dont want to be paint just mask it. It is a little bit tricky tho doing this with the engine in place. I do all mines during the rebuild time so was a bit easyer. Wash very well to oil free sand paper to clean in depth aply bright color as a base color then the color you wish and lacquer after all.

I used Hammerite stuff on mine, that was 2 years ago now.
Still looks fine, and yep i brushed it on.

with mine the block was taken right back to bare metal, then we ran 12 volts through it and used hammerite with thinners through a gun.

result :)

first time round we brush painted and it lasted well, but didn't have the finish this one has, it's like a plastic coating.

Really nice result Dub-Se7en. How you put the 12v through it without a shortcut?
