Parking brake overhaul

Looks like I have one or three of these to do so I jotted down the part numbers of the parking brake bits to suit a GT Turbo. These are all Toyota numbers except for the equivalent Blueprint part numbers of the cables at the top.

Just thought they were worth posting before I forget:

Small update.

So I've ordered the three Blueprint cables from ebay, came to under £50 for all three which is pretty reasonable.

Retail price for a set of all the other odds and ends for one car looks to be around £66 via Toyota:

Probably a bit pricey for what is essentially a pile of bolts and brackets but I've ordered them anyway. The ones on the car are most likely rusted to bits so no harm in having them to hand.

There's an obvious saving if shopping from the likes of Amayama.com :

But you will have to remember to add shipping and import duty to that total. Might actually order a set now I've done all the typing..

Some very good info there Jay.

I've a rear caliper that needs a rebuild on one of mine so I might get all these refreshed when the time comes.

Pricey, but I'm sure a rebuild for the pair with painted comes to double that.

I might just get a new one :)

I used a place in Nottingham for mine. The Brake Caliper Specialist. Can't remmeber how much it was for both rears rebuilt and painted.

currently redoing my rears. not messing about repainting them though!

i got the rebuilt kit off ebay for £30 as the piston and sliders are fine.
decent quality for the price, all fits like OEM.

On the pair that I need doing its the handbrake mechanism thats not working. The main piston moves freely.

i have never had a handbrake mechanism not working on any of my starlets.

i have generally found that they get gummed up over time. a strip and clean of the lever and spring as well as working the input shaft from the lever in and out a few times frees them up a treat.

worth giving it a try at least!?
