Good Motion photos needs some photo knowledge. feel free to share yours.
explain which shutter speed used and all
Santos theory:
Shooting a STILL photo to give the feeling of motion is a tough task... If you
set your camera to 'freeze' the object, there's no sense motion and if you
have the shutter speed set too slow, you wind up with a blurry mess...
Here are some of my favs from this thread so far and WHY they strike me:
In the above shot, the car is frozen while the wheels have that 'motion' look
as well as the ground 'moving' under the car... this was a shot, probably
taken from a lead car... love the angel as well!
This next one follows the same principles; car is in focus and the sense of
motion is convayed by the 'spinning' wheels and the background 'rushing by'
(ABOVE): Although a 'trick shot', I give it marks for creativity!
This next one (taken by the track photographer at Capitol Raceway) was
taken of my former race car, TERCEL4, and while it's
almost a blurry mess,
I feel it captures the violence of 1/4 mile acceleration (but, I could be biased)
Here's another nice drag racing/motion shot...
Hopefully some my observations above may help you take better motion
shots... I'm not a very technical guy with F-stops and things of that nature
but, feel I have any "eye" for a good photo and it's just a matter of doing
what I think will put that thought/image down on paper or on the screen!
THE END!!
