Hi All..

recantly purchised a glanza v starlet,

the pipe comes of off the inlet manifold and goes into the inside of the car..

it seem to go somwere around the heater controls or somewere,

please help asap

yh i do have a boost gauge, but this has another vacume pipe going to it, and it still works, their is to vacume pipes that com of the manifold, one on the left then one on the right,

thing i dont get it its not a standard vacume pipe as its blue, so wondering weather someone has just put it on thinking it will reach and it dosnt so they left it sitting their?

basicly i need to no is their any sensors inside the car that a vacume pipe goes onto, other then a boost gauge..

Sounds aftermarket chap.

Block it off and that should cure your vacuum leak on the manifold. You would need to trace where it was leading to yourself though - could be a feed for a boost controller/gauge/timer for all we know.

the car wont boost over .5bar then when it comes to .5 bar it coughs and splutters and the needle of boost gauge just goes up and down up and down,

i have a new actuator on the way for it and new ht leads,

i do have a turbo timer but this reeds the boost to, is their ment to be a vacum hose on the turbo timer? its a hks one,

picture?

i say a pic would really help right about now.. :) it's hard to place what you are saying but visualizing it may help us assist you fix it quicker.

Have you blocked the pipe off and tried it yet?

A manifold leak will cause running issues.

It's also possible that the pipe has come off the MAP sensor (small sensor bolted to the bulkhead on the driverside). Worth checking that too otherwise we're gonna need pics buddy.

Cheers,

Will get pics uploaded later when i finish work,

i have blocked the pipe off and plugged it into the turbo timer, still wont boost properly,

also the eml light is on, i will check the the map sensor now, i have vacumed the actuator but when i pump it, it just lose's pressure, dosnt hold it, so maybe thats why when i gets to .5 bar it wont boost above it?

but cant seem to see why the em light is on,

clarification please

@gardner51: not to put you down mate but did you mean you blocked the piper and plugged into the boost gauge..?

& your engine light may be caused by very many possible causes. do a diagnostic test and post up the codes.

i ment i have put the pipe into the back of the hks turbo timer,

didnt really make any differance,

to do a diag test i would need a reader? or is their another way? were is the plug to put the reader in?

engine diagnostics

pipe and turbo timer don't go together in the same statement.. :D ..unless it's a wire we are talking of and not a pipe. what kinda turbo timer is this that you have..? any chance you can get pix up..?

& no, you don't need a reader to do engine diagnostics on these cars. depending on whether you have an ep82 or ep91 variant, find the diagnostic box on the top right hand side of the engine bay when you are standing in front of the car. follow these easy instructions to find out what codes you get after the test..

Hi, cheers for the link will do that asap and report back,

it is a hks turbo timer, on the back of it it has 2 wires with multi plugs on then a black hollow pipe, which i thought a vacume pipe would go on so it can measure boost aswell?

if not then im unsure where this vacume pipe goes,

i have to admit i may not know all about hks timers. perhaps someone else on here may be able to advise. do the diagnostic and we can take it from there. get pix up when you can too so that we have more info on this and will be better placed too assist..

The only turbo timers I have seen with a vacuum feed are the Blitz dual timers. If you just get a bolt and block it off for the time being at least it eliminates an air leak. Usually faultfinding is easier without aftermarket parts involved.

thanks for the help so far guys, the fault code is 31...

so MAP when fitted- Open circuit in map or short circuit VC

Any ideas?

i must have disturbed a wire for it under the drivers foot well?

map sensor

find your map sensor and check that the vacuum tube/pipe and wiring to it are securely in place - note that the pipe from it goes to the manifold. it's located on the top left side of the firewall in the engine bay when viewed from the front of the car. you can see it here in my engine bay next to the TRD sticker. hope that helps..

SORTED.

Just want to say a big thanks guys,

once i new were to start map sensor, i used a test light and i wasnt getting any live feed to it or my fcd..

so i followed the wire around the car and it dives inside the car. preivouse owner had decided to attach it to the radio live... and as i have pulled out the radio to get to the sub wires i must have pulled abit hard and became de-tached, wired this up how it was to see what happens n bam... em light goes out now lets car tick over fine and boost properly :)

now i just have to wire it back up my way so it wont happen again

Thanks guys!!

another proud tgtt member.. sorted!

always glad to be of assistance mate.. :)
you could always spread the repp love too.. :D hehehe
& yes, i second the idea of you re-wiring the whole place to your taste. best to use solder, but if you can't get your hands on a gun and some soldering wire, twist and wrap the wire on the other so that there is as much surface area contact between the two..

u can also get little solder connections ya just heat them with a lighter and it solders the joints and also the outer plactic sleeve shrinks so there water proof too

electrical tape: go all out

that or wire clamps too. visit your local hardware dealer and check at the electrical stand/section. you could find a few things that may make your rewiring work a lot easier.

also.. a word of advice, be liberal with the electrical tape. layer it on as much as you can - spreading it slightly away (~.5 or 1 inch) from the electrical joint. this is coz after some time, heat makes the adhesive side of the tape a little less adhesive and it may peel itself off. because a lot of this wiring is hidden away, you may not immediately notice it and it may build up to present a fire hazard or manifest itself in an electrical fault.. :(
