Porting and polishing

I think the genral consensis is that its one of the last things to do there are alot of cheaper and easier things you can do to get the extra 20bhp. For instance a turbo upgrade can be cheaper or a remap. Unless your chasing big bhp your looking at improving responce. As said gee has 270bhp on standard cams and head.

well i dont mind doing it for people as long as its worth doing as it does take a while. i know the kits cost about 40 so if someone knows how much it normally costs i'll do it a bit cheaper

i know what your saying but around 20 brake is a lot. i mean if it cost 200-250 to have done. that sort of money is peanuts for that sort of power really

Never been quoted on a port and polish before but i'm guessing it costs a bit more than that. Not to forget changing head gasket oil and coolant. Alot of people would do the cambelt and tensioners while you are there. I would say thats a couple of hundered in parts and materials alone. Obviously if your doing it yourself or getting it done by a friend it probably becomes alot more reasonable. I would say sorting the head it on a starlet is like stage 4 tuning so after you've forged the bottom end and got a bigger turbo for most people anyway.

was that a ready stripped head then? doesnt seem bad at all that doesnt. i'll see how mine goes anyway and then i'll let you all know once i've had it all setup in a month or so hopefully

yeah i think so mate, i just asked them to port and polish the head while the engine was getting rebuilt

Yeh so that £300 just for the port and polish the other costs would have already been in the cost of the rebuild already such as oil h/gasket ect. so we can say thats go to be £500+ if its the only job you are doing.

thing is, 20bhp is usually the least you can expect to see from a port job. the guy who did my head has pulled 50-70 bhp from a cossie head before.

i think the head on mine will really come in to play once i change the turbo to something bigger.

I would say 500+ like Timmy said and I've certainly noticed the increase considering the boost I'm running.:)

so if i did mine and it went well and somebody fancied one done. i'd do it for 200 delivered on the idea of a swap for your standard one as i have a spare anyway.
