Problems with my CT9

Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong, but I was hoping maybe I could get some input from the experts. I was driving normally, and not getting on it hard at all. I pulled up to a light and tried to accelerate hard off of the light. I got boost up to nine psi, and then it went down to five and stayed there. It felt like I was hardly moving. I tried again and could get nothing but five psi. I popped the hood and found oil coming out of the BOV, and covering the top of the compressor housing. I had recently taken off of my MBC and routed the lines back to the OEM setup. The car still drives normally besides the lack of boost, and is not smoking at all as I would expect with blown seals on the turbine. I'm not sure what else it might be. Any suggestion? No blockages in the oil lines either. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know guys. Thanks a lot!

check to see if ur wastegate flap is stuck

Thanks a lot for the response Sam. Just curious would that cause oil to come out around the charge pipe and compressor housing. It's coming out of the BOV as well. Thanks!

Hey Spoonz,

No smoking problems at all. I have yet to take it off to inspect as it's my DD. Shouldn't it be smoking to hell if the seals are done?

yes if the seals are gone it should be smoking......anyhow check the wastegate flap for the boost not rising .....as for the oil are u having any missing sound from the engine?

That's the thing that's driving me kind of crazy. The engine seems to be running just fine. There's no missing, no smoking at all, oil level is fine, just a little leaking out of the BOV and somewhere around the compressor housing, and it's perfect up until after 5psi. Then I have nothing it seems like power jsut drops off. All lines to the factory boost controller are hooked up correct. Can't think of what it could be. Thanks for all the help everyone!

i would say your wasteateis probally cracked an the seals have gone aswell you must remeber these are 10year plus turbos

What I was afraid of. I think i've got the EP82 4EFTE in my tercel, so it's probably pretty high mileage. I guess I'll have to drive it how it is for now. I'm doing the 5EFTE thing soon I guess I'll have to hurry the build now. Hopefully I'll get a chance to tear it apart sometime this week and get a look inside and see what's going on in there. Thanks for the help guys.

Hey guys and gals,

Got a chance to take the old CT9 off, and to my surprise no shaft play, or anything! It spins freely, so I'm kind of confused as to what the problem could be. The wastegate is not binding, and there are no cracks around the wastegate door. I haven't taken the turbo apart as I was under time constraints. Once again there was no smoking on idle or under boost, under partial throttle it will boost to nine PSI, but under full throttle it will bog down to five PSI just before making it up to about 7 PSI. Any ideas? Thanks!
