A big cloud of blue/white smoke when sitting at traffic lights is a sign that the turbo exhaust housing is fubared. If you loosen off the downpipe and inspect the wastegate area of the turbo you can confirm it - there will probably be a crack present.

Hey Mate

Yeah sounds like a common problem of oil seals on turbo, it will be the oil dripping into the hot downpipe and thats what the smoke is, it tends to start like you said just as you pull away but if you continue to use it it will get worse.

I'd be looking into getting the turbo reconditioned or another turbo.

Hope that helps you buddy.

On a stock setup there's four bolts holding the downpipe to the passenger side of the turbo.

There's another brace on the downpipe that holds it to the block.

You will need to loosen off the exhaust brace as well to allow some movement.

Once the downpipe is dropped away from the turbo you can unclip the actuator from the wastegate flap and inspect the exhaust side of the turbo housing. You will probably find something like this:

The seals and the cracked housing are part of the same issue mate. Heat fractures caused by heat soak from the manifold will eventually kill a CT9.

Your best bet is to replace the turbo with a good condition secondhand one if you are depending on the car. Also keep an eye on your fluid levels in the meantime.

If you have the cash Mr Burwash has a few brand new ct9's on the shelf. Very rare to get new ones at this stage. Alternatively you can upgrade to hybrid/bigger turbo status but expect to required supporting mods as well.

Is there anyway to repair a crack in the wastegate??
What problems will it lead to if it is left cracked??

as ppl said check the turbo oil seals but for me (with the same symptoms) mine was cured by replacing the pcv valve on the rocker cover - worth a try first

Hi guys, My car does a simular thing smokes when warm on idle. The smoke it blue which i would say its burning oil. if i rev the car a get a load more of this smoke then it clears for a bit then continues to do it quite regular.

I have replaced my turbo with a spare from a GT i stripped but i didnt make a difference. I cleaned the pcv valve also no difference. I had a look on here about the problem a while back and read that it could be, Valve Stem Seals.

Also if you are going to clean the pcv valve out be carful not to brake it when removing it out of the rocker cover.

Wot do you all think?

mmm

so the burning question is will it be the turbo needs replacing or the pcv i presume the pcv is alot cheaper and i can get a refurb turbo for about £190. so mmm labour pcv few mins turbo few hours lol but like you guys said its more pointing towards turbo seals but damn it burns oil when its knackered a good litre in a few weeks .
