all the starlets must of been a bit shody mate to be fair.... starlet is lighter with more bhp and more torque, its doesnt add up even regardless of the fact weather we've had had or raced the 2 cars.....

my old VTR was only 20hp short of the GTI/VTS and was nowhere near as quick as the GT was......

lol going up a strip isnt hard.....when you have monster power like you dan and dan you have traction issues and have to progressivly feed it down.....theres a technique to doing it,other wise youl be there for years burning rubber away and getting shit times.

you learn over time of doing it,like me at karting, for my size and weight im rapid but controlled, all experience at the end of the day.my mates arent controlled thats why they crash dont have good times, all experience....

same on a srtip, youve got to know your car, like GT's with out an lsd have bad issues in 1st and 2nd(like most turbo fwd cars with no weight) but you have to progressivly put the power down and change gear at the right momment, not off the limiter, more like 6000-6500rpm max.you dont want to be at 5k when launching too, more like high 2000s or mid 3000's.

its all about the driver getting used to his own car,you chuck a inexperienced driver in any random turbo car and it will be strange to them, all time and experience.

its around the corners where youve got to learn to control it properly:)

Do you know how the starlet's (most) LSDs works? It doesnt apply in straight line traction.
Think how it would work on a strip...be a bit of a bugger if one of your wheels had more grip in a straight line wouldn't it...

Sorry but making good times on a 1/4 mile is 90% power, the rest is divided between your chasis and knowledge of your own car(presuming you can drive reasonably well)

I mean come on were talking about drving a car as hard as you can up a strip of tarmac.
All you have to do is launch it right and shift right while keeping it in a straight line, most of which is down you knowing the car, not being a better driver or having years or experience of driving other cars which are completely different to each other.
Fair enough if its a RWD car with big power, then you'd have to keep the back end in aswell which is a damn site harder than when launching a FWD.

So in my opinion of this off topic conversation is that for a highly/lightly tuned GT/Glanza there isn't much skill in hammering down the quarter mile unless you call knowing your own car skill.
Its just launch-shift, a track takes skill to an extent.
And the handling in a starlet is grand when you think of its purpose when it was built, a city runaround with a damn good engine as an after thought, no a sport/performance car.

Just my 2c

You say that you are good at karting but Karting is 100% different to driving on the road there are people, other cars and trees lol as well as curbs and idiot drivers who like to piss people off good point 100kph.

And CaL not being rude or anything but you say you wanna go hybrid you won't be able to afford it as you say you have no job and also if you can't drive yet what makes you think you will be able to control a hybrid you really should get some driving lessons first that way you will learn the basics of car control and do a defensive driving course.

You can't just jump in a car with no experience and think you know how to drive it and control it we have so many idiot drivers like that over in Nz that have killed themselves and other people they have devistated their families and friends young drivers+no experience=Accident waiting to happen just my .2 cents also

i think we should right into the makers of top gear..

now that would settle it for all!

captain slow in the vts

hamster in the 106

clarkson in the starbo

and then stig takes one round the track!

now that would be a good episode

I know karting isnt the same as track driving but in experience ppl who have karted are pretty good on the track using racing line etc etc take jones36 for example he passed his test same time as me last jan, he went on track at silverstone at trax and kicked ass! He has karted from a young age and although he doesnt have the yrs experience as some ppl on here he stil managed to be sensible safe and fast!

I know there have been some crap times at santa pod etc but you gotta remember not everyone is going down there to break a record, i mean i took my auto gt down there for a laugh see what she would do , was just nice to know :) what does that mean im letting the side down now? some ppl have stock cars and just wanna see what its like.

anyways were alll experts behind a comp, why dont you all start saving your pennys up for september and lets see all the starlets going round track at silverstone?! :)

And i'm forever hearing about how bad 106gti pedals are? size wise! that not dangerous? :S

probably the same as a fiat seicento's pedals which were very close together, you just get used to it. And I've got size 10 feet lol

the only thing that bothers me from jumping from the auto gt to the manual is the pedal sizes not the clutch, im use to the footwell being very roomy ! hehe

Another us vs them,my dicks bigger than your dick,my dads harder than your dad etc etc

Well ive driven both and i like driving them both, pedal box isnt a problem with size 13 feet with skate trainers on either, you have to learn to adapt to your surroundings.

Who really gives a monkeys chuff, what beats what, its what the owner thinks, and thats what matters is it not?

Come on rory, this isnt about that..... its comparisons between two cars.... Cars get compared everywhere, thats what its all about.... Some just want to know what the car their driving would beat and what league its in...

i think its all good fun a little competition between motors....

I know what your saying Dan, but come on, this happens every month between the two.

Yes its good fun having a bit of banter between cars, but the starlet vs 106 thing is done to the death.
