EDIT: Also, do you want a 2 seater or 5?

Deffinately a matter of opinion I loved the one I had, in fact I have owned an EP82, an EP91 and as of next week 2 MR2 turbo's and I have to say they both have there advantages bt the smile the MR2 tubby puts on my face is bigger than the starlets.

Thats cos you never went TD04 Alex lol... All yours have been fairly standard. But got to agree the MR2 is a far more fun car to drive in standard form. But it will cost more to run.

At the end of the day its down to personal preference and circumstances to which car to get.

MR2, I don't understand why it would have engine problems... 3sgte is a great engine...
RWD is fun, mid engine on top of it...

Recently swapped my MR2 Turbo for an EP82, both great fun cars.

MR2 Turbos are very nice to drive but expensive to run. When problems arise their either harder to fix than your average car due to their design, or more expensive to get parts.

My turbo was a REV1 - dangerous is the only word to describe it in standard form. REV3+ are far better (1993+)

Insurance was exactly the same for both the mr2 and the EP82 with my insurers.

The MR2 Turbo's have become very common of late so you can get a lot of car for your money these days. I only swapped cars out of boredom/Fancied something different.

Much better MPG from Starlet though, and parts are more expensive on the mr2.

Shop around and you could find a minter for very little money.

Something like this is always going on e-bay mate -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-MR2-TWIN-ENTRY-TURBO-1995-M-REG-FRESH-IMPORT_W0QQitemZ320383027501QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item4a9851092d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A7|66%3A2|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

Either that or buy a pukka REV1/REV2 and upgrade Suspension, brakes, bushes, Strut bars, rear lights and colour coding and you have a REV3 (bar the 240bhp engine, just 220bhp standard) Easily tuned over 300bhp though

My REV1 had smaller brakes and non-bilstein standard suspension which the REV3 versions come with, no abs, no traction, no power steering, no airbag, no strut bars....Made it very fruity when driving in the wet.

You can go on MR2OC.co.uk, the forums always have rev3 bilstein standard suspension for sale, but I bought aftermarket coilovers for about £600 (Tein HA Coilovers) and fitted REV3 calipers all round with Greenstuff discs and pads, but standard ones can also be found cheap on owner's forums or ebay.

Strut bars were about £100 from Cusco (Helped a lot!)

As for colour coding, this depends on bodyshop you go to, but shouldnt be too much as all it is is the bigger front splitter colour coded and side strips.

The rev3 rear lights go for £200-£300 depending on condition, whether they come with the centre panel, looms and locks etc...

To get to 300bhp, you are best following the same rules as any other turbo car - SERVICE IT STRAIGHT AWAY, Sort out breathing with induction kit, uprated intercooler, Exhaust system de-cat and manifold, uprate fueling and boost, get a good ECU and you should see huge gains with the 3S-GTE engines!
