In the market for buying another glanza. seen a few for sale with decent specs but dont know which way to turn. i dont want too much lag and i also want boost all the way to redline? Iv been reading a few threads and TD04 spool time seems to be round about 3500-4000 Revs laggy or not ? :homer: whats spool time on a hybrid CT9 (Tongs maybe) does it run out off puff after certain Revs or strong to the finish ? which way would u turn and why?

iv had tongs ct9 and td04 if anything the hybrid ct9 was little more laggier than td04 and not much top end
go td04 just as cheap and a lot more power.

what about the lag lads, is it noticable ? and is there any specific TD04 turbos with a faster spool up time, would it really be worth hybriding a TD04 ?

i had this whole argument covered i brought a hybrid set up but never fitted it cause i went td04 if ur in first gear u hit 3k revs in like a second so ur on full boost chane gear at 6 k revs and it drops to like 3.500k so ur alredy boosting as you change gears lag aint an issue unless ur cruisin along at 30 in 5th then try put ya foot down man up go td04 im running standsrd engine 0.5 bar and already beatin alot of bigger cars :)

Nice, What would be maximum safe boost to run on a TD04 setup which will not damage standard internals. Would i need an LSD box for a setup that is running roughly 220bhp or is traction not an issue with this amount of power ?

i have a td04 hybrid td04-h19 , there is no difference in spooling , the big difference is the power , i noticed a big and hard gain after 4000rpm

for me it is not so much the pressure that can kill the engine it is the way you are revving hard and high ...with internals

Id almost say the same! The td04 is nowhere near as laggy as some people would have you think! Part of me wishes i never bothered with the hybrid and went straight to td04!

Looks like i will be going for a TD04 setup eventually, theres one for sale that has a TD04 internal wastegate ? would i be better off with an external wastegate setup. whats the difference and what would be better off for the starlet. Im only thinkin of running 1 bar boost (hopefully this will be safe) looking for around 220bhp this time round.

from my experience of both, the td04 was very laggy, and i hated having the td04 fitted, and would go back to the hybrid anyday of the week,

depends on the person i had a hybrid ct9 and it pulled alot better than a ct9 turbo but td04 and less boost pulls better than the hybrid there little lag difference to be honest i i prefer being a little laggier that way save petrol cruising around and on the motorways etc as ur not using the turbo at all

i run a ct9 hybrid, from speedvision... good response but a lot of smoke in case you want to buy here...
start boost like 2800 but on 7200 mantain full boost (i run 11 psi), i love the response! more power will be nice but means little less psi in td04 and more lag, this set up is like run a td04 to 8psi, but the hybrid won in the start thats the difference, my car run 1/4 mile at 14.0 y hope to improve this time now with lsd trd!

Thanks for the opinions lads, im going to go down the CT9 root find a hybrid turbo run that for a little while. If i feel its not enough power i will sell the tubby and upgrade to a TD04 kit. Like everyones says its down to what YOU want. some people prefer the TD04 some people prefer less lag with the HYBRID.

well i had a tongs hybrid ct9 on my old gt and it was a very good and very responsive turbo and i could no fault it, but and this is quite a big but imo if you do motor way drives then the td04 is so the way to go as you can easily cruise at 70 80mph and the turbo is not spooling at all and round town is a lot nice to because you can save fuel where the turbo isnt used.

Lag wise i do not find my td04 laggy at all if anything my ct9 hybrid was worse and when the boost comes in on my td04 it gives so much more of a kick. i am running 1 bar and making 230bhp with 200 at the wheels and it is amazing, plus the screamer pipe and external wastegate sound amazing lol so imo td04 is the only way to go :) plus if/when you go for a forged engine you can turn the boost up more and gain a lot more power with a td04 :)

just my 2 bobs worth hope this helps

NICE!, what other modification do you have in your engine??, i hope being in 185-200whp with my hybrid at 12psi

Well I got a hks fcon v pro gold ecu with it mapped to a bar, race tech kit with external wastegate, tmd race spec rocker cover, catch tank, paddle clutch and lightweight fly wheel and that about it off the top of my head man :)
