Comments: Wong Fei Hong (Jackie Chan) is sent to train under his uncle, a wine guzzling master famous for crippling his students. Desperate to escape this brutal teacher's cruel regime, he flees but is confronted, humiliated and beaten senseless by a hired assassin (Hwang Jang lee). Angry, ashamed, hungry for revenge, the wayward Fei Hung returns to his drunken master. The Omega Man (1971)

Title: The Omega Man

IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067525/

Director: Boris Segal

Year: 1971

Comments: Charlton Heston carries off the part of the omega man in his usual, some would say over-acted, way but realistically portrays the part of a sole surviving man going slightly crazy after an outbreak of a virus which turns everyone in the city in to Zombies.

You may have seen "I am Legend" ... well this is the real one! Another case of "they shouldnt have re-made it". This is the original and without a doubt a great film.

Enter the Dragon

Enter the Dragon (1973)

Director : Robert Clouse

"Bruce Lee was immortalized in his films as a martial arts master and first-class entertainer. ENTER THE DRAGON was the first martial arts film that American audiences had witnessed, and was... Bruce Lee was immortalized in his films as a martial arts master and first-class entertainer. ENTER THE DRAGON was the first martial arts film that American audiences had witnessed, and was actually produced in both Hong Kong and Hollywood. Interestingly, ENTER THE DRAGON also set the stage for non-traditional, culturally specific narratives to make their way into Hollywood. Bruce Lee plays a kung fu master recruited by a foreign government to infiltrate the island of a megalomaniac martial artist named Han. Han's bodyguard is also found to have killed Lee's sister, giving Lee a personal vendetta to fight for. The Hall of Mirrors sequence towards the end of the film is now famous, as are Lee's incredibly gymnastic martial arts abilities. This trend-setting film holds up as an entertaining, engaging action movie, more than 30 years later." ref.

TITLE: Schindlers List

IMDB Link: http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=schindlers+list

Director: Steven Spielberg

Year: 1993

Comments: This film moved me to tears when i watched it. It shows the darkest side of man, and at the same time the qualities that make us all human. A true story, and a brilliant piece of movie making, here is a quick run down of the plot for those who havent seen it.
Oskar Schindler is a vain, glorious and greedy German businessman who becomes unlikely humanitarian amid the barbaric Nazi reign when he feels compelled to turn his factory into a refuge for Jews. Based on the true story of Oskar Schindler who managed to save about 1100 Jews from being gassed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. A testament for the good in all of us.

The Last Waltz 1978

TITLE: The Last Waltz

IMDB Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077838/

Director: Martin Scorsese

Year: 1978

Comments: "The Band" were a formidable force influencing a generation with their music which featured in movies like easy rider and were the band of Bob Dylan. Having toured and enjoyed great acclaim for years they eventually decided to disband and as their last performance they had a concert entitled The Last Waltz.

They invited along some of their musician friends for the event including Eric Clapton, Dr John, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Ringo Star, Joni Mitchell, Paul Butterfield and Van Morrison.

Shot in the amazing style you would expect from Scorsese with performances cut with laid back interviews from the band this is a taste of the era and has the feel that it is the end of an era... It should be in everyones collection even if just for the dueling guitar scene with Eric Clapton and Robbie Robertson.

Léon (1994)

You'll have to define Classic! But to me this is...

TITLE: Léon

IMDB Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110413/

Director: Luc Besson

Year: 1994

Comments:

Professional 'cleaner' Leon reluctantly takes care of 12-year-old Mathilda, a neighbor whose parents are killed, and teaches her his trade.

leon2.jpg

I think I first saw this film when I was similar to Mathilda's age (Natalie Portman), I'm sure it was a Channel 4 Movie Premiere. The aura around the film was very controversial, more so in the present day. I remember having a crush on her character. I recently purchased this as my first Blue-Ray I thought Natalie's acting was fantastic and Gary Oldman's performance as Stansfield is particularly good.

The tear-inducing closing scene, in which she discovers that he is not a wealthy duke but only The Little Tramp, is one of the highest

Director: Charles Chaplin

Year: 1952

Summary:

A fading comedian and a suicidally despondent ballet dancer must look to each other to find meaning and hope in their lives.

Chaplin's final American film tells the story of a fading music hall comedian's effort to help a despondent ballet dancer learn both to walk and feel confident about life again. The highlight of the film is the classic duet with Chaplin's only real artistic film comedy rival.
