Its currently having another engine fitted by Nick @ Tuning Developments, cut a long story short i got my bonnet locked down and was on the way to the garage to sort this out when the car ovearheated and cut out spitting a core plug out the side of the cylhead -

i imagine the bottom end is ok but it might need a new cylhead and obviously a new core plug set which only cost a couple of quid but i didnt want to run the risk of fitting core plugs and the engine still being goosed, there had been signs of it being worn by the oil light coming on and going off under load - i didnt know if this was down to a sensor being broke because the car was also showing as really hot but running perfectly fine.

it turns out i think the engine was on its way out so i sourced a 14k mile old engine that has been rebuilt using brand new ford parts everything from pistons to valves in the head, new oil pump/water pump vernier pulley etc I have receipts for everything and the whole build comes to at least £2500 in parts and labour.

There are a few loose ends i want to sort out with the car little things such as rear demister switch, fog light switch, clips for the bonnet vents and the passenger electric window switch need replacing.

My old 5 spoke mondeo alloys are going to be refurbished in white for the show season because RST look great sat on them style of alloys. Will then have two spare sets of standard RST alloys.

Then the car will need setting up at MSD in blackpool for the new engine. The engine on a very similair setup in its old rst ran 188bhp/200lb ft @ 17psi so im hoping to be close to that figure once its set up.. mine also has a few more bits n bobs than the car the engine came from.

Let me know what you think, i just fancied a complete shift from having a jap car for the past five years or so. Im going to definately be keeping this motor now though and i am thinking about getting another GT as a project to run side by side with this :D

love it,

i fancy a series 1 (boyhood dream),

shame the cvh's dont take to power very well though,

I would have to disagree with that statement, if you go on passionford you will find alot of people forge the CVH engine because they do take to power quite well, remember - your talking about a standard engine being able to take 200bhp that originally was only 130bhp - sound familair???

Like any engine once you get to a certain point you need to start looking at forged parts - these however you can bolt a 2.0 zetec bottom end onto the engine giving you larger capacity engine and the zetec bottom ends take upto 250bhp quite easily with a good setup, and if it fucks up - go the scrappers and get another 2 litre bottom end for 50 quid... :p

Tough as old boots these cars mate.

DAN, nice one fella muchos appreciated!!! i think its in the passenger footwell, theres a short shifter kit in there aswell if you know anybody that wants one - will take 25 quid for it.

Just got some more parts this week to smarten it up even more.. new unsagged doorcards, twin a pillar pod to house some STRI gauges im going to get from nick and mike, cossie steeringwheel in much better condition than the one on it, uncut parcel shelf, amber indicators, 15w50w fully synth mobil motorsport oil. :D

Absolutely no offence taken mate, i know what you mean - but theres nothing Chav about my series 2. Most of the Chav cars have made their way to the melting pot by now!

Its nice to own a rare car again anyway, see starlets all over the place these days :p When i first got my Starlet, there was only Me and misteradam who had them in and around the northwest, then Kelly got one, Tim got one, Nick got one, Gee had a glanza then it boomed from there lol.

come on dude its a nice car I have to admit but its an escort... just like the EP is a starlet... rare they are not.

Best of luck with it... but word of advice mate dont get dragged in by the haters who are looking for a response from you. You see the reply above the dude cant even spell Jap so not even worth bothering with.

nice, looks a very clean example, not a massive fan of the fords but my mate loves them and has had a couple of xr2i's with the 1.8 which was good fun :)

friend has a 87 series 2, nice cars, engine wise they are behind toyota, toyota 1.3 can take more stock than fords 1.6
