I finally ordered a new remote fob for my glanza, went and picked it up today. And lone behold the instructions to prgramme the fob, from the japanese site i found do work. The translation from japanese to english using an online translator do not come out very clear. So here is the procedure:

Unlock the car. Climb in and close the door.
Insert the key into the ignition barrel, turn the ignition ON-OFF 3 times
Pull the key out of the barrel then press the button on the new fob.
Locks should now cycle on, off.
Insert key back into the ignition, and then again turn the ignition ON-OFF 3 times.
Pull the key out of the barrel and then, again press the button on the new fob.
Locks should now cycle on, off.
The fob is now programmed to the car, just double check by pressing the button on the fob a couple of times, the locks should god up and down.

Mods, this might need moving to the Helpful info section?

And for those of you who would like a fob heres the part number

89742-10010

Cost me £32.55 incl VAT from Toyota (30/01/10)

Thanks mate this worked for me!! I had to repeat the process twice, if you do it once the locks cycle but the remote isn't coded.

If you buy a new fob does it work from further away from the car?

Mine has never worked properly since I got the car. The little red light flashes on it but doesn't unlock it. It does if I hold it to the cover behind the rear view mirror so does this mean i need a new battery or to re programme it?
