turbo help please

Also have a race inlet which helps spool slightly.

Thanks

Short runners are for top end power, long runners are for mid range power, where you need it to get that turbo spinning. I would try changing to a stock inlet manifold, you are not seeming to be gaining much with the short runners at the top end the way it is so I dont think you have anything to loose.

Alan E made over 400 bhp with a stock inlet manifold, on a 4E with nitrous but not a really big shot.

i'd suggest you check a few points
- intake manifold...MAYBE use the stock 4efte one or get a 5efhe ACIS intake which will help you loads with spool...if you are using an aftermarket race intake manifold with your stock rev limit combination, in this case it is not doing you any favors....plus its been kind of shown that the acis or stock manifold is pretty good up to around 350hp
- your 3" intercooler piping is pretty big...step down to 2" on the compressor side and maybe 2.25"/2.5" on the TB side
- i've seen good results with both the 4e and 5e timing marks....so i'm not sure which is better to be honest

the vf35 has a P15 housing, which is about the size of the td05 with an a/r of around 0.5

http://www.ukstarletclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19453&st=180

take a look at that...and the acis is not even set up properly as yet
you should be making full boost much earlier than you are now...maybe 4000/4500rpm region

what gas quality (ron or mon) do you use over there?,,,,as this can affect the tune somewhat

if you change the manifold, cam timing, and/or intercooler piping, etc....or mess with your set up,,,,you should go and get the car checked and retuned....as your map may need some tweeking
try to keep under 1.5bar with the vf35 turbo for reliability

Who ported the head?

Was ported when i bought the engine but i think it was sumo power.

Im gonna change my boost pipes and wastegate spring from .6bar to 1 bar.

What are the opinions on the timing? Im looking for a more driveable but still quick car than a max power figure.

Id loose 30 brake and gain a bit more torque and spool lower down.

i suggest again....like the others said as well
please try the stock 4efte intake manifold....if you have one laying around...
that by itself should give you some kind of indication....even if you change nothing else right now

aftermarket intakes normally go with veyr big power and raised/high rev limits (maybe in the region of 8000++rpm)

whatever you do or change...remember to go get your tune checked ...it makes no sense risking your engine

I dont want to sound negative, but the size of the inlet and throttle body on the car are setting you backwards big time.

I have seen one of these inlets in the flesh, this guy bought it used off someone on here, he had it it dyno'd and to cut a long story short he did worse than with the stock mani. He had a TD05 18G, the same turbo Kon (hybrid) uses and get absolutely no lag at all.

If you want to start from somewhere, take it off and get one thats appropriate for your build (compression, turbo setup etc), check timing marks and set the car to rev to 8000rpm.

just noticed this thread again, though i would add my latest input, ive done some datalogs recently and for reference my td05 16g will hit 22psi on my 5e with 7.5.1 cr at 4170rpm. but i have posotive boost from 2000rpm on wot, it really come in strong from 3200rpm.

im still yet to get a RR graph as i do all my tuning on the road but i expect im on the good side of 320 at 22psi, i would run more boost bust i need to rework my external wastgate pipeing to utalise both ports as it wont hold anything over 23psi. and i suspect my head maybe lifting as i get oil seemage around the block at 22psi after a thrashing lol suppose i need arp headbolts

2anyway

td05-16g +5e 7.5 cr = 22psi @ 4170rpm
i rev to 7k max to avoid excessive piston speed even though im forged i would prefere to play safe as it fast enough between 4-7krpm
