Unlocking Boost/HKS FCD

Hey!

Well, I been down to see my mate over the weekend and he fitted a HKS FCD for me. He wired it in on the map sensor, however he took the power from the HI/LO solenoid (at this point i should mention my cars a EP91 Glanza V). Now, it already had the bypass done to unlock the boost. To take the power from that plug that goes to the soleniod hes cut both wires, and now my boost seems to be back to restriced again, feels no where near as nippy as it was.

Could this be related?

Cheers.

You do with a HKS FCD unfortunately mate...they make the car run lean, as they are not very good...they confuse the ecu into think you are running less boost...so its only fuelling for that, if that makes any sense :)!

Oh, ill have to get that checked then! What setting do they go on? I seem to remember they go on about 7 ish dont they?

yes it does, it give the the ecu a lower voltage for the map sensore signal resulting it running lean.
There is absolutely no need for an fcd on stock boost level it only causes problems and you have no protection from boost spikes and creep.

It does no harm having it on untill you see fit to raise the boost :)[/QUOTE]

it still does harm even on stock boost cause it runs lean thru out the revs

Who said anything not going past it? It does no harm having it on untill you see fit to raise the boost :)

That's the JAM you are thinking of mate.

The HKS tricks the ECu into thinking it is running lower boost than it actually is - all the time.

This means that the ECU does not fuel for the boost you are actually running. Even below fuel cut.

You can still run lean below the fuelcut area.

I guess its that they assume people with enough brain power to fit one, and enough money to buy one would know what they are doing.

Obviously not lol!

Its not a 'time bomb' either. I guess the idea is, fit a FCD at the same time as you get your fueling setup.

Who said anything not going past it? It does no harm having it on untill you see fit to raise the boost :)

Also, regardless of whether or not you raise the boost level, its stupid to fit it without the fueling sorted appropriately. If you're not boosting above 'fuel cut', there is no point in having it, thats all its good for. If your car boost level creeps up with the current setup (not uncommon for a CT9), it'll not have the safety of fuel cut stopping you from boosting ridiculously high.

To be more detailed, if you tune it with an rrfpr you make the car rich across the hole rev range and under any load, a fcd leans it out across the rev range and any load. So basicaly with a jam fcc you'll be richer below .93bar than you would with an fcd.
So an fcd is probably better than a fcc if you're using an fpr.
