built not bought

get some guts and build it yourself mate.. :)
a few hours every evening and over the weekends, you can be done in under a month if you have all parts at hand - assuming you are doing a targeted repair/build (as in, you know what's wrong and are fixing it). it also depends on what kinda repair/fixes are being done.

i do it myself as 90% of places either dont have a clue or are just plain crap! did take a gearbox to a bloke once and it took him over 6 months just to change the synchros. the rest of the box was in really good condition :(

i built my engine myself. took me a week to assemble and i took my sweet time.

before that i spent months cleaning/preparing/checking/painting every item. but the actual building doesn't take that long

time slicing

@rage: i agree. the paintwork can take eons to complete.. :) i remember when i was doing my rear axle and brakes, cleaning took 70% of the total time. taping up stuff, maybe another 10% of the time then the rest is what actually went into the paintwork.. :p

My Micra went off for work 4 years ago and hasn't come back. Not expecting to see that ever again tbh

Soon as we get an engine in, all the parts are sourced prior or as soon as the engine arrives at Kevs. Takes around 1 week to complete with all the other work he has.

just turn up at the workshop every night and tell crap jokes until the job is done.

you'll get to see it all come together, you may even get to lend a hand :)

memories. LOL

My Mk1 will be off the road a full ten years next month.

I don't work in days or weeks anymore, I've upgraded to years and decades!

he a nissan man but does his own work from evenings and weekends .yeah i have been told numerous times that the most annoying part .probably doesnt help i used to help him out with bits around the garage .he does be flat out but when you live down road from him and he has it months there comes a time its taking the biscuit .next weekend is the latest deadline :slap::haha:

Stripped most it down myself except cams and timing side of things let him do that. engine getting full rebuild so i wouldnt be brave enough and have knowledge to best give it to someone that knows than hack at it and end spending more money. although have a spare 4E at home that could be learning curve to build that up :p

wtf 4 years? hope the mechanic doesn't charge hourly mate:haha:

seriously though whats the story with this?

I paid a couple of thousand to get things going for a SR20DET conversion with 4 wheel drive. The guy got out of his depth. Managed to get my money back but sadly lost a lot of rare parts and the car was undrivable after he started hacking it to bits :(

Yea do it yourself, we fully stripped and rebuilt my engine, changed my suspension, brakes, interior, dash loom and got it all running in like 8 weekends.

Mind you it took me 18 months to source and buy the parts for my build lol

Currently at RaceTech being mapped and a few things changed, hate not having it and not doing the work myself but I know its in good hands :)
