without a thermostat the water will not overheat,,we used to do it with ford mustangs all the time in the summer when i lived in the usa
As for low temp thermostats, there a waste of time and pointless, even for track work.
Dan, running without a thermostat will let the car run to cold, it will NOT overheat.
Only reason for a car to overheat wuld be the fan not to work, or internal damage to the engine, ie H/Gasket or Waterpump..
My car does run rich (as said by tuners) and as i only have the stock enigine temp gauge, im not sure if it is going over 90 degrees or not.
I never seem to get any heat out of my heaters, maybe after a long drive.
As said by many, should i just get a new thermostat & see if it makes any difference?
Cheers,
Change your thermostat. Cheap and easy.
Does it sound like i do need to from the explanation ive given mate??
Yep.
Once done, remember to bleed your system through.
Right people aren't getting the point.... I'm very mechanically minded and know how cooling works I it is more of the people who have had the problem with a GT as all cars can suffer different problems. I used a new thermostat as it i sn't possible to seal the GT housing without 1 as far as I can see. It runs as though the thermostat is wide open all the time it takes a long time to warm up and runs too cool to be right! but its new! I think I need to bleed the heater core as I having to rev to get it even luke arm... Just wanted an easy cure lol... Oh well back to the freezing conditions outside.
This may sound silly but are you putting the thermostat in the right way round.
Chuck your thermostat in some water and bring to the boil in a pan, should open before it boils.
Did you fit the thermostat the right way round, the bleed nipple at the top?
I've noticed mine if I just drive it it doesn't heat up though if I let it idle it warms up to correct temp and generally stays there, never goes over though.
I'm using a Civic radiator, it only started when I changed to this radiator.
