No offence but have you ever taken one off a starlet? they will only fit 1 way round because of the depth of the housing! So yes its right.

Not checked the new thermostat to see if it works so I'm gonna have to get it done. Found today I have an air lock in the heater matrix but can't sort
it too easy cos me hosepipe is frozen solid! I thawed the outside tap to find the hose was rock solid so I gave up lol.

No offence taken, I have changed them on 4e's and 5e's. I know what you are saying, what I ment was with the little hole on the top so any air locks can work there way through. Should of said the right way up.

I have a dual core civic radiator in my race car and it's far more efficient than the stock single. Even a small cooling system is capable of removing a massive amount of energy so it doesn't take much to over do it as Toby suggests.

Interesting read in here:

I have al racing civic rads to. I am using it with the standard thermostat, and there is no problems. Im live in Hungary, so in the sumer there was fuckin hot like 36°C and it could handle the heat on a 2min slalom course... now it is cold outside like hell about -15°C... right.. the heating is bad, but after 10mins of drivin it reaches normal temps. So i think (as others) u should check the system and rebleed it (i ve never had problem with it) than u should try a new standard thermo.
And there is the old busdriver hack. Put a thick paper in front of the rad. It is ugly, it is nerd... but it worked fine in the old days with communist cars like Ladas, Dacias... well... U guys can never imagine how suck them was :)

cheers
