what could cause lag on a map

This i kind off a follow on from the TD04 lag topic, basically im intrested to know what could cause a turbo to be laggy depending on the map!

My cars running a TD04 at 1.1bar on the 4e, im not seeing full boost till about 5k, Other people are saying that there hitting 1bar by 3500rpm, what could be diffrent from my map to theres! Im gona get the car re-mapped in jaunary anyway because iv never been fully happy with my map I had and the person who done it has since stopped mapping starlets :confused:

you could have killed the turbo when you left the clamp undone

back in the day my td04 was hitting just over 1 bar at 3800rpm,
james we will put a td05 on it they hit over 1.3 bar at 4700rpm:rockon:

Not by 3.5k maybe spooling but not 1bar between 4k and 4.5k is normal i'd say.

I can't understand why a mapper would stop mapping a certain type of car?

Your never going to see 3500rpm in first gear, but you should be there or thereabouts in top gear. I mapped 1 the other day and it was 4500 ish in first, 3500 ish in 5th.

Is the wastegate adjusted correctly?

There a various ways to make a car boost earlier. But the map would have to be pretty horrendous to make it that bad.

On the rollers its easy to simulate a high enough load to produce the boost much earlier, but this isn't going to help when its back on the road.

Im using a tial ext. wastegate, the wastegates holding the boost really well and when it does boost its really smooth!


Could anyone tell me if there is anything i can adjust on the avcr that could maybe adjust the spool up time!

Yes but i wouldn't advice it, to be perfectly honest i wouldn't be driving it too hard till you get the map checked at least.

What ECU are you using?

he is running a emanage, it does drive nicely and hold 1.1 bar solid all the way to 7.5k, it starts boosting early just takes a while to build up to full boost:confused:,
will get onto paul 2moz for you james,

Any of you got a wideband? And a lead to connect to the Emanage? If you could get me a download of the timing map, i'l be able to tell you (roughly) if its safe. And if you can check AFR's you might not be that far out. Which would point to a mechanical problem. I.e. actuator etc.

na rick, i was looking at getting the lm-1 but not for a few weeks, it's a got a 38mm tial external on it now, wepr intercooler etc, need's to go to ea to see what it now makes with different boostcontroller and a tad bit more boost, as it was set at 0.8 at ed's

Out of curiosity what are the engine specs of the car?

Its running

Standered Internals
a wepr TD04 mani and down pipe!
Tial ext. waste gate
wepr fmic
emanage blue
1.1bar @ 5000rpm
apexi AVC-R
330 injectors
**EDIT** and 3/4 of a toms kit (cheers gaz :p)

you should be able to make the boost hit in earlier on the avcr by adjusting the gain and set gain values. i would think thats where the problems lies. is your settings on the boost controller. get it back on a RR and set the avcr up agian any half decent tuner should be able to do that.

think iv jut got to get it down to Engine advantages and get it set up properly,

gaz_EP88 @ Let me know what paul say's gaz, earlier of the dates i sent you the better please mate!
