What turbo to achieve 350bhp?

it will prob be around 1000-1200 wont it? if i decide to change from the subaru style flange to something like this i would just get the flanges cut off and modified to fit the new turbo, saves buying a new turbo kit.

Yeh, as Adam says ATP seem reasonable.

Luckily I have a WEPR T25 Flange Manifold which should do the trick if I go down a .64 T25 GT28 Housing route.

Nice post, even if you have copy and pasted most of it ;) (apart from your flow maps and own numbers)

Remember the VE will drop the higher the revs go.

If i have time through the night ill have a more in depth look into this.

I wrote all of it mate, I learnt it from looking else where ;)
Like I said it's only estimation, but if you always expect to spool later; it's a nice suprise when you bolt the turbo on if you spool earlier than what you have expected :)

You deserve some rep :)

Mabey so but ive found paragraphs almost identical to yours on the web.
But aye its there as a estimation and to get yourself into the ball park of choosing the right turbo. :)

I'm not the first person to write about compressor flow maps, nor will I be the last ;)

Gord, does that include turbine housing?

At todays conversion, the GTX2863R is £812 without a turbine housing. Have to add shipping on top of that also. Can't see the 2860 being more than this?

im trying to get the gtx2863r at the moment and finding it kinda hard well from england i can get it in america but its the cost of vat and customs duty is mental i rang owen developments who are garrett dealers and he told me it will be a couple of months before i could get it the gtx is a far far better turbo that the 2860

I have noticed that the gtx series are hard to find over here at the moment. I have had trouble searching for them, which is why I have been keeping an eye on ATP website to see what more turbo's garrett release in the gtx series.
I was comparing the gtx2863r and the gtx2860, not the gt2860 :) Seeing as the gtx2860 is slightly smaller I won't be able to understand if the price is higher than the gtx2863 :confused:

my bad i thought it was a gt 2860 just had a look at your compressor map on the last page some good info but could it reli flow 2 bar in around 4200 rpm on a 4e cos im planning on running that turbo the 2863r on a 5e with 2 bar of boost i realy wanna crack 400hp

also in the caluclations
Now we want to calculate the CFM, so we are going to use this formula:
CFM= (L*RPM*VE*PR)/5660
Where L= Engine capacity in litres
RPM= Rev limit
VE=Volumetric Efficiency
PR= Pressure ratio
whats the 5660 where is that from?

Adam, sorry I should have made it clear the price I stated is in Dollars, so is exactly the same price £812. Shipping has be quoted at $135. And no turbine housing is included as with the GTX2863R

@Grum, it is a rough estimate but I would add about another 5-7% on top of the rpm spool to cancel out any errors, if you really wanted to get an exact figure you would also have to the thickness of the line drawn on the map. Add another 200rpm to the spool time as a factor of safety I would say.
The 5660 in the calculation is just apart of the formula, not 100% sure why it's there but I can have a look later ;)

@Gord, sorry I did think it was in dollars :haha: I don't think it's a bad price, although if we was to wait and get one from a dealer over here, the price will soon be bumped up due to tax and I think we would be lookin closer to the £1000 mark just for the turbo itself. Are Owen Developments going to be advertising the gtx2860r on their website when it's released? I don't live far from them and could always pop in.

Gord R, are you still in the search for the quest to find the best hill climb turbo… ha ha.

Well if you are looking for any sort of response coming out the corners to net you a good trap speed down a straight in addition with a strong midrange power and decent top end, the last thing you want to do is bolt on a Garret turbo!

Now I’ve not anything against the Garret turbos and I’m not saying their a bad charger, they are good for the right purpose. What you need is a very well matched Evo or Subaru turbo, mhi or ihi. The Garret will only be good for top end in my opinion because of it’s design where as the evo or Subaru turbo will net you good response and strong midrange power which I think is what you require. No doubt the garrett chargers are good for a drag, top end or top speed setup.

Sadly it's an on going battle, but there are many other factors I'm currently planning on experimenting with to try and get a more suited hillclimb/sprint setup.

As previously mentioned, I'm keen to see if these more modern turbo's GTX/BW's can see any gain.
