Winter tyres in this climate are pretty much a waste of time :) Just take it steady on the one day we have snow again this winter.

As for 17's.......way to big and they just look odd on a Starlet.

Should be the same as to put 17s on my car.
Good for if you think it's cool. But otherwise it ruins the ride :(

I will add when I had 17's with 205 40 17 I had to reduce my strong camber as part of the tyre was off the road due to the extra width.

@5e Colin ... ' what i dont get in the comments of you guys is when fitting 17" tyres i would have less grip in the rain ????? explain please ' -- I think this may refer mainly to heavier 17" I found the stock suspension reacted so slowly the car went sideways on bumps and ruts cornering even in the dry .

So go for Light weight 17" - eg Enkai 17's

Jesus boys the lad asked for pictures, NOT what will work better in any climate FFS..
If he wants to run 17's, so be it. Dont get your knickers in a twist over it.
