Not a good time for jobs unfortunately.

This might sound a bit silly but I would recommend setting up a profile on linked-in if you havent already. I have received 3 job offers in the past couple of months from people who have found me through that site. They were all genuine and relevant jobs too so its worth a try.

Also go in person! If at all possible go to wherever you are interested in working and try get to see someone who has some authority to hire. Sometimes positions do not exist until they see the right person and decide they are worth hiring.

Linked-in is very useful I've had a few offers for the field I'm over the past few months!

Its a pretty sorry state of affairs for people genuinely looking for work at the moment. Can't even walk into a supermarket shelf-stacking position anymore!

Large companies are using it to there benefit though which really hacks me off. I'm doing chainsaw work for only a few pennies off minimum wage at the moment! Sometimes wonder why I bothered to fork out over a grand getting my chainsaw license. But if you have any issues or ask for a rise, the boss just turns round and says there are millions of people out of work, if you have a problem, leave!

I do sometimes wonder why we choose to work and not just live off the govenment, we'd be so much better off!

You cant find a job because there arent any jobs to find. Im qualified as a spark 2 years ago and ive only had 3 months works since. Im going back to college to get myself a civil service job so when the next recession comes around it will be me bitching and moaning about having to pay more tax, levy's and higher contributions to my pension but at least i'll have a job. Its pissing me off. Ive been working part time or full time since i was 15, im 27 now and having no job is wrecking my head and going for interviews is demoralizing. Ive actually been told im too qualified for jobs, that they wont hire me because i'd only get bored and leave after a few months

You may be better approaching businesses by sending out your CV with a covering letter (you can always hand deliver them rather than posting them out) rather than trawling through job sites looking for something to jump out at you. The last time I placed an advert in the local paper for a technician it cost £2500, so I wouldn't assume all vacancies will be advertised.

I have done this countless times and honestly it was a waste of my time. I did it professionally as i could but i just hate it when they dont have the decency to reply.

currently employed and got a wage rise 2 months ago but i want more, and a taste of diff sized projects. Been looking for the past 8 months in websites, had one interview which i was unsucessful with, there were 48 applicants for one position lol

Craig, im qualified in AT and hats off to you and your website/company :)

I cant any work in my field so ive set up my own business. Seems the only way really

Threads like these make me appreciate having a job.

Although I would obviously want more money and it never hurts to look like but sometimes it's better to play it safe in an ok paying job than a risky high paying job.

im thinking about jumping jobs, but there is nothing out there, im an engineer, and fancy going onto the rigs or something instead of ships, but it seems like there aint many rig jobs, unless im looking in the wrong place. and only a few years ago, the rigs were a safe bet, loads of people left work to go out on the rigs.

Anyone ever been turned down because they live to far away? I was turned down a job because I lived outside of 25miles from the job. I was willing to do the 1 hour drive each way but they would'nt take me on in case I was'nt reliable!

Can't find work locally and then it gets used against you when you go for jobs further afield, can't win!
