will gearbox pack in?

the bearings in my mates gearbox jus went recently and its crunching/grinding away rather annoyingly! just wondering if the gearbox could go on for ages yet without packing in or could it pack in anytime now!?

The broken pieces of the bearings will be floating around the gearbox in the oil and eating up the other components.

Could fail tonight, could fail tomorrow, could fail next month. Can't offer a definite answer mate.
