Toyota quote a 8.2 time in the brochures for both EP82 GT's and EP91 Glanza V's.
My guess is that is a conservative figure to cover the automatic and heavier equipped models. That is the official book time taken from a 1990 Starlet brochure, a 1992 Starlet Brochure and a 1996 Glanza Brochure.
I've been on the trail of where the 6.9 figure originates and found it a few weeks ago.
Autocar (longstanding UK-based motoring magazine) flew Peter Nunn across to Japan for a preview of the new EP82 Starlet back in Feb 1990.
In the interview for the magazine Yuuichi Sorimachi, the chief engineer in charge of the new EP82 Starlet, boasted that his standard 1990 GT was faster than a 1.9 Peugeot 205 GTi. He even quoted a quartermile time of 15.3 secs.
So basically there is both official and unofficial figures quoted for the Starlet GT. You glanza folks are slightly slower but not by much.
