I know you said Jap, but if i was in the market im afraid it would prob be a Passat:

I have one of these as a run around with moon mileage and does easily 450miles to a tank! Comfy and got the space ... Audi 80. I know that ones a 2.0l but its only an example, i bought the 1.6 version:

the 2.0 turbo cars arnt as bad as you think if you can keep your foot off the accelerater and off boost, im only 22 and i seem to afford it all alright on okish wages i even would go as far as to say i cant decide what was worse on fuel my cammed vts or my gt4 lol.

yeh I was looking at 200's and gt4's but my brother said I may find myself struggling to afford petrol as he does sometimes. I currently drive a 1.8 turbo passat which does about 25mpg mixed driving and 37 on the motorway. I have no issue affording petrol in that and dont go out on the lash anymore either so I just dont know. I wish I could borrow his scoob for a week to see if I can the petrol!

how many mpg do u get out of it driving without planting ur foot? I only do around 12 miles qa day and double that when I see my missus.
I live with my dad now so also have more money due to that
