5e smoking AGAIN!!

Hi guys, couldnt find my old thread. So i have a built 5e engine (forged internals). The engine has only done 2500km. Initially the engine smokes if idling too long (grayish, a little blue) but goes away after driving. So...

Got the valve stem seals changed
Checked the intercooler piping (connects to intake manifold) and it is all dry there

Car still smokes a little bit during long idle so I decided to change the PCV valve (initially took it off and never put it back on). I purchased a genuine toyota PCV and grommet and put it on. The car smokes alot now at idle!!

Compression is still equal in all four cylinders.

I just did a service and I'm using 20w-50 oil (very thick I know)

What do you guys think it is? Can it be that the thick oil is causing the problem??

Thanks

Nick

car has a breather, pretty much one of those little air filter looking things straight on the valve between 3 and 4. PCV is connected straight to the intake manifold.

The reason for 20w-50... *shrugs* I'll go thinner next time. Thought that it was better to run thick oil when the engine is still running in?

hhmmm how would I check it is the turbo? I've checked the intercooler piping to the intake manifold already and no oil there. There is no oil leaking out of the dump pipe.

So if my rings didnt bed cos of the thick oil, will it be too late to bed them in?

remove your downpipe/decat and inspect turbo for oil.

personally id change that oil to some 5-40w stuff and see if the smoking stops, before stripping everything/anything.

you sure its def oil its burning and not just overfueling?

if it is blue then it sounds like turbo. like said above whip off the downpipe and check the turbine on the turbo for oil.

i dont think the 20-50 oil has anything to really do with the problem....as a lot of guys i know use 20-50 without any issues (including myself_....also, i ran in all my 4E and 5E builds using 20-50 oil without any problems, so have a few others

now we tend to use 20-50 due to our rather hot climate (caribbean)---10-40 is popular here as well

it sounds like your turbo is leaking on the exhaust side....u may not see any oil in the d/pipe, as that will be burnt off immediately,...BUT look closely at the exhaust turbine area for oil dampness (between and behind the fins/wheel/blades)

Yup thanks guys. I'll will check. So remove the d.pipe and check through the turbine?

The car does not blow smoke if its not idle for too long, even under boost. Will this make a difference to the outcome?
