all my exhaust valves are burnt?

took the head off today because it was rattling ..

inlet valves were fine but all the exhaust valves were yellow ish..

when pushing the valves down as they popped bak up there was quite a metal on metal tapping noise. i presume that was the noise i was hearing. the valves closing.

Burnt valves means wrong clearances.

take the vales out, give them a clean and lap them back in to re-seat them

Well depends what condish this other head is in? are the clearances all correct? has it been skimmed and crack tested?

old engine

it was my old engine where the big ends have gone and new engine the top end has gone.. headgasket was done not so long before the big end went so i changed the lumps and low and behold top ends shagged... my old engine was far stronger than the new one more than likely because it was stood up for a year the noise i am hearing could be hydraulic lifters fucked or valves noisey as they sit?

the bottom end is ok i think so surely i can build a working lump out of the 2

Looks like that head has been running lean, to white on the plug tips and and valves, it should be tan rather then white. The exhaust valve colour is about right looking but I would lap them to cheack they are sealing all round and check the clearances as said above.
