just done a search but had no joy!

since i bought my car when driving the temperature gauge drops alot, when driving quicker and harder it goes right down to what it is at when you start the car from cold?

im thinking its just a stat faulty but if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great! cheers

i got th same problem mate an i got told it is the stat but there only cheap anyway,change th stat and u should b ok :)

yea it does, and its always idling high cos it must think it is cold, very annoying!!

ok, will change the thermostat and hopefully that helps!

can you get them from toyota? quite clued up on the starlets but stats are a new problem for me.

its the thermostat. get one off ebay or a local motor factors. a uk starlet thermostat is the same. costs about £10

yes, thermostat, common problem, easy fix, while its out its always worth flushing the system with a hose pipe, and replace your coolant.
be sure to use red type antifreeze/coolant:)

just done all of this when i removed the air con, didnt use red stuff tho so might change it!

i'm pretty sure ep82's should use the red stuff, if someone can confirm?
by the way, be sure not to mix red coolant with blue or green types

just done a 50/50 mix for winter, but it done it before i changed that. will change the stat and see how i get on!

yeah my car had this problem turnt out to be a split in the rubber seal that goes round the stat, so i just replaced the stat and seal and now works as normal! :)
