hi every1 i posted up on here not long ago about some project ideas. was gna get a corsa but that fell through. so found myself a crashed old mini. ile get some pics up soon. its got a front end smash quite bad, but engine subframe etc all ok looks like just bad cosmetic damage. its a 1989 1.3 saloon mini. unsure of exactly what model. but gna get it in the garage 2nite, then start totally stripping it to bare shell and starting all over again.

unsure of where to go engine wise tho.

anyway reason for this thread is to see what other people have done with their minis if they have had one. any1 built any mental ones?

im probz gna get a new engine built for it cus we already got some powermax pistons and a block and few other bits. but dreaming of putting a 4efte init with a side exit :homer:

Go to the 16v mini forum. MGzr 160 engine into one I think would be good and not break the bank expensive.

K series is king ;)

You can get ready made k series subframes, if you get the k series engine though you need to make sure you get the ecu, 5as box and the keyfobs with it :)

the 4e its in rhe front as its quite compact as the k20 goes in the back. you can buy the whole cars subframe to fit the k20 and a rear axle also as itll be running driveshafts lol

buy the rover k engine and a huge stack of head gaskets.:haha:
k20 or 4efte ftw

Thats funny, because when i used to work at a MG rover specialist we never once had a car come back with HG problems once we had done them properly, same as at my dads garage?! Use the Land Rover uprated MLS gasket and you will never have a problem....plus the HG is usually a symptom not a cause of a problem, most people just whack another HG on without finding what made it go in the first place.

The beauty of the rover k series is how light it is, it produces more bhp per KG than any rival engine (including V-shat) and isnt that the whole point of a mini?

I know of a buget turbo'd 1.4 k series mini running 350bhp on standard internals...tasty ;)

K20 mini would be sickenly fast and responsive. go for the JDM version with K pro with custom header and your looking at around 240BHP. Shocking in a mini. Pure raw power.

all options boys. still got most the money i had left over from selling the glanza lol. well first thing we gna do is totally strip it to bare shell. check for rot etc and then have a cup of tea and think of what engine to use!

edit: nah i certainly ay loaded lol. but i am very good at saving if i want sumthin. and this is a long term project ;) so k20 is defo an option.

many years ago when i worked in a garage i was given a lancia delta hf integrale as it was rotten to the core(if you opened the boot lid the car sagged in the middle) took the 2L twin cam lump from it and shoe horned it into the rear of a mini, it was very heath robinson but worked only downside was the gears were all back to front, otherwise it was pure wicked i have no idea of power but it was mentally quick. would do it again but only with suitable life insurance :p

Im restoring my own mini, that ive had since i was 16.
Used it daily for 2.5 years and kicked the arse out of it, never let me down. Then found the Toyota....

Mine is currently ready for welding, whih ill start this weekend, then start looking at the Carbon panels and 16valve head conversion from the BMW bikes.
Scratch not having the A-series in the front, not a mini then.

agree with everything munday said,

kseries are awesome engines, HGF does not just "happen" something else goes with causes the hg to fail.

and to be honest, saves alot of other problems occuring! The oil pump died on one of mine, blew the HG before it did any internal damage, id muchr ather pay out for a hg!

Die hard k series enthusiasts, just hope it isn't misplaced enthusiasm :p

K series engine will weigh less than the standard A series...

Rory: As long as no Metro turbo dies to donate its engine to a mini then im happy :)

z cars is a good source of parts and subframe kits for most engine swaps on minis. And k series or v tech can go in the front or back is up to you but v tech means you hav to extend the front by an inch or two. I used to have a 130bhp mini and the torque steer was hectic so good luck if you aim for mental bhp it is
a mini at the end of the day, so if you want big power mount the engine in the boot. Or go for twin yam r1 engines 1up front and 1 in the back then its 4wd. Get a copy of mini magazine and do some reasearch mate. Still to this day 1 of the best most crazy cars iv had!
