a ported wastegate gives better release of gases once the wastegate opens and people only do it when the encounter boost creep.

Porting the wastegate helps you regulate boost more precisely. When you increase boost pressure above stock, the waste passage on the exhaust housing of the turbo is not efficient at letting waste gasses escape quick enough.

This is because the port is not big enough in diameter and what happens is the boost creeps and shoots past your desired/set boost pressure. There is only two ways the waste gasses can go, out the waste passage or into the turbine housing and charge the turbo.
