Anyone Drove a ST205 GT4 Import?

Had 2 and loved em both!

Very heavy on fuel with a heavy right foot, fig 8's clutch, cam belt, lower arms(banana arms) should all be done or expect big bills. Avoid a "fresh import" as pretty much none of the above work will be done, auctioned in japan at the point these are due to be done usually.;) Get one with UK history and proof the above has been done.

Are the fig 8's really that bad? We're changing my brothers soon and besides costing £70ish each they don't look that difficult to change (but I guess if you took it to a garage the labour would mount up hmmm...)

i had one before my starlet, cost too much to run - as everyone said listen out for clonking suspension and clutches are a nightmare, i payed 4k for mine 2 yrs ago with about 70k on the clock pretty mint one though, i got around 300 miles to a £60 tank not as much fun as the starlet more refined, it was nice but it was almost too safe chuck it in at most speeds and it'll come out the other end. not that it wasn't quick - it was but just smooth. Very nice car though! engines are pretty good wel as standard i guess...

A lot of what to look for has been covered tbh, big things are the front suspension as its a stupid amount of money to replace if it goes wrong. Rear diff mounts can collapse, not mega money at around £80 but still a horrid noise when coming on and off the gas.

Gearboxes are pretty damn strong, *safe* figure apparantly is upto 600bhp so plenty of scope there! :p Plenty of parts about for them and prices at the moment are really low! if you like to make use of the 4wd from the line then ensure you uprate the clutch as the stock one doesn't like a lot of abuse.

Decat, exhaust, EBC @ 1.1bar and FMIC should see you over 300bhp/lb.ft and make really nippy motor :) They are fast in a different way, especially compared to a GT after driving Nicks for a week! My mpg varies but sits around 16-22mpg. Car is running bigger injectors and turbo though. Was around 20-25mpg when on the stock fueling and turbo.

Theres plenty about at the moment so go view a couple and make sure you pick a good un, lots of info on the gt4oc as you've probably already seen :)

Hope that helps!

As Deano says, the engine's are good (I've got the same as him, a Caldina GT-T with the 3S-GTE engine), and make for a quick car. I went to look at one with about 360bhp about 3 years ago, but never bought it as it turned out to be from Keighley...

Also, PM replied to! :)

just got rid of mine.
cost mega money to run.
handleing was pretty crap.
when things go wrong they are not nice to work on.
also get bad power loss through the transmision
mine was 266bhp at the fly but only getting 172bhp at the wheels.

36% transmission losses... sounds like dyno operator error

That dyno must be right out of whack coz most 4wd cars have a 15-20% transmission loss from what I have seen my caldina got 215 hp at the wheels and 257 hp at the engine and thats 4wd too can't see how the handling was crap my big long station wagon corners like it's on rails it actually corners like a small car it's amazing
